Decided to dig this one out of the bits box and have a quick go at turning it into an 11th Armoured Division tank. I know my brushwork's functional at best, but it does the job, and you can probably guess that it's as much a "proof of concept" model as anything else anyway…. ;-) The model itself is pretty nice – they've short cutted by using a "standard" M4A4 hull, so the glacis is a bit wrong for a Firefly (hull MG should be deleted, and the gun's travel rest moved from the glacis to the rear deck) but to be honest those two details didn't bother me enough to start filing, and that quibble aside it's a nice little model. Aside from a mould line on the turret (which I really should've spent a minute filing) the casting's very clean, and has a nice heft to it too – there's definitely something pleasing about 10mm as a vehicle scale.

I find 10mm a bit of a happy medium when it comes to details – it's just big enough to reward getting them right, but just small enough not to demand them, so you can pretty much take whichever approach you like. :-) |

I see it a bit differently. I think they are not as good as either 15mm or 1/285th(GHQ). They look odd to me. The barrel is too fat, for one thing, and i've yet to see a 10mm tank.vehicle look anywhere as good as something from GHQ(1/285th) or even CinC. Not to say that your work is bad, I just don't see what 10mm holds for people. The detail just is'nt there. |

"The detail just isn't there." And I'm thankful for that. While I've always been amazed with what GHQ can do with 1/285, the trend toward uber detail – detail you would not even notice (in scale) strikes me as fairly ridiculous. For me, 10mm is the ideal compromise scale between 1/285 / 6mm and 15mm. |

I find the opposite – the human eye notices the lack of detail very well, it is far better to have GHQ's exaggerated detail than none at all. |

Looking good Dom! We're actually in the process of revamping the Sherman's with some better models, part of a long-term project at this end. Should have them available soon hopefully. Thanks for the other comments/feedback folks, much appreciated. It's worth bearing in mind that some of our vehicles were sculpted over 20 years ago now, so they don't compare as well to our newer models. Here's a couple of our more recent Modern releases:

To be fair, if the web photos showed my own painting, we'd never sell a thing…! |

I really, really like the Pendraken tank models and they are all I use for my HotT armies, which I game in 15 MM scale. His tanks paint up beautifully, and for my need fit the allowed base size for HotT. Here's one for my Weird WWII Hollywood US Army. At one time had large 6mm WWII forces, but when I started having a hard time distinguishing them on the table top switched over to a larger scale. 10mm is perfect for WWII, not too large and enough detail so it is easy for me to recognize the model on the table. Certainly appreciate the amount of detail on the GHQ models, but at typical tabletop distances it is wasted on me since I can't see it. |

Yeah, 10mm is an excellent scale. Big enough you can base individually if you need some that way, small enough you can get a lot of stuff. Also, while infantry is only a touch cheaper than in 15mm, tanks are drastically cheaper. |

I LOVE 10mm scale, but I've yet to see one single piece that has any decent detail. Most look like globs of metal. IMO, the Pithead mini's look better than the Pendraken figs. (meant no offense to Pendraken, just my observation….obviously, my opinion won't hurt their sales as they are supremely popular!) 15mm are even more amazing, but the cost, imo, isn't worth it, and I like larger battles. Can't do that with 15mm…agian, imo. |
