Thanks for that game report. I had never come across these rules until a couple of weeks ago, when one of our group suggested we inaugurate our host's new war-games room with a game. We used 54 mm figures, Republican Roman v Carthaginians, on a 10 foot by 5 foot table. It was a really good game, with loads of laughs, especially when the Carthaginian ekephants failed to rampage through the Roman lines and turned tail. The mechanics are simple and easy to pick up, the command and control system makes you plan moves carefully and the game moves along at an excellent pace. Definitely prefer them to DBA. |

Wouldn't this be better on the Medieval boards? |

I hadn't thought of that. I tend to group all pre-gunpowder as "Ancients". Any other opinions? |

i believe these rules cover the period from about 3000BC to late medieval, as do many "Ancient" rule sets. |
