Interesting to see that Victrix are now doing cavalry for Ancients – link

I wonder if they'll do any Napoleonic cavalry now?

What do people think about the horse sculpts?

I've had my fingers crossed for 28mm British heavy cavalry in plastic for years – then I can do the Union and Household Brigades justice!

With all British heavy cavalry wearing big white gauntlets in combat, the cuff differences between regiments would not matter. One box could produce all the heavy dragoon and dragoon guard regiments, with head variants for the Scots Greys.

no

Perry possibly.

Eventually all (all) the differing types of wanted figures will be released in hard 28 mm plastic. The markets dictate this. Remember when soft plastics were in its infancy, they asked the same question. As the tech finds cheaper and cheaper solutions to demand and supply more and more realised products.

If any maker had the slightest idea of how to make a fortune, why not make this guy? Leave off the fringed epaulettes (better, make both arms separate).

With a separate head he becomes any early dragoons, carabiniers, Grenadiers and Dragoons of the Guard, Gendarmes d'Elite especially of course…..

OK the horse would need some work but……..

BTW the British Heavy Cavalry, forgive profound ignorance (I thought French Light Regts no drummer, I thought…..many things actually, but always proved wrong here) I thought it was other way around. Gauntlets for parade only, once out of Whitehall, white short gloves (even if reverse makes more sense for protection)

We will if some hardcore wealthy wargamer ponies up the cash and has them made.

This is my fault. I've been putting off the buy. Once I purchase and paint all the British heavies I need in 28mm metal, there should be at least two releases in plastic.

nice one…….how many conversions have I done to create obscure units…and two days later……?

Not until french Ligne infantry(early and late), french legere (early and late), early and late french dragoons , at least 4 more versions of each of the french heavy cavalry units and another two sets of polish lancers have been put onto the market to compete with the ones already available…

then somone might realise they need someone to fight.

Of course you won't.
They won't be heavy if they're plastic.

Winston Smith24 Jul 2016 5:55 p.m. PST

Sheesh. Buy the metal if you need them that badly. They all look the same in the table.

Could you tweak with the Perry Plastic french Napoleonic dragoons already out for the British dragoon guards? Maybe swap some Austrian honeycomb helmet type heads onto them and get your household cavalry maybe, and say french grenadier heads for the scots greys, or possibly Prussian heads if you want them wearing the cover? Victrix or warlord spruee have parts that may be helpful if you are going to tweak. Perry sell sprues on their website also or try ebay.

good luck
cheers

Was it Prince August or someone earlier who worked out that for pretty much all Napoleonic cavalry you only need about four horse sculpts? One for French heavy, one for lancers, one for hussars and one for British heavy.

Horses yes.

Square shabraque, square portmanteau will do for most heavy cavalry. The sheepskin over the cloth for some spoils that of course and covers the pistol covers.

Pointed shabraque and round valise/portmanteau for many a light unit, if elite.

Plain sheepskin with round valise for Hussars/Chasseurs/Line Lancers of many nations. Could vary in shape and size though.

British Heavy, indeed Light too when on campaign, curiously modern. More like ACW than Napoleonic.
