I'm just starting a project. i'm initially doing a couple of the divisions that fought at champions hill, ive sorted the regt strengths but i'm having difficulty finding information regards numbers and type of guns in the various batteries that were on the field. can anybody point me in the right direction. much thanks for any help.

You can try searching for each battery by name. That might give you a "unit history" that lists the types of guns. But more often than not, no gun composition is given, even in the on-line Official Records.

I've had the same problem with the Army of Tennessee and Army of the Cumberland in Tennessee in 1863.

I've asked a couple of Civil War historian friends if they can assist. I'll post their response if they have any source(s) where you can look.

Good luck,

Jim

Have you tried "Battles and Leaders of the Civil War"? It often has extensive OBs for the battles.

Thanks for the responses, (even though I've posted this on the wrong board) I have battles and leaders so i'll dig it out. failing that I will just go a mix of parrots and Naps a reasonable compromise I feel.
