… Christians, and Jews under Islamic Rule in Medieval Spain. "The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise is essential reading. It will soon find its place on the shelves of premier academic institutions and in the syllabi of pioneering scholars." —Antonio Carreño, W. Duncan McMillan Family Professor in the Humanities, Emeritus, Brown University "I could not put this book down. The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise constitutes a watershed in scholarship. . . . Fernández-Morera brilliantly debunks the myths that for so long have dominated Islamic historiography and conventional wisdom. We were waiting for this great breakthrough." —Raphael Israeli, Professor Emeritus of Middle Eastern, Islamic, and Chinese History, Hebrew University of Jerusalem "Fernández-Morera examines the underside of Islamic Spain. . . . This is an intelligent reinterpretation of a supposed paradise of convivencia." —Julia Pavón Benito, Professor of Medieval Spanish History, University of Navarra…" See here link Amicalement Armand |

I read this book recently. It was a good read, if repetitious at times. It did demonstrate that the Muslim rule in Spain was every bit as imperialistic and colonialistic as every other imperial power in history. Reading between the lines, it was clear that the Jews fared better under Moslem rule in Spain than under Christian rule. Nevertheless, Moslem Spain was clearly no paradise, even Moslem descendants converts were 2nd class citizens. |

Another review: "It is interesting in looking at online boosters of Morera's book that they emphasize very much that he has good academic qualifications and a very respectable job at Northwestern University. Such boosters fail to mention, however, that _The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise_ is not published by an academic press (was it refused I wonder) but by an avowedly right-wing political organisation founded by William Buckley called " Intercollegiate Studies Institute, Inc.". |

Does it matter who the publisher is if the info is good? Those who disagree with the findings will make their arguments against the book no matter who published it. |

Dn Jackson, you are getting in the way of jefferyw3's quote of a reviewer's fallacious argument… please step aside. |

It is always important to know the political/religious/racial leanings of authors/publishers of this type of work because it is an indication of possible bias. As part of my history degree we had to study the history of political thought to show how the inclinations of a particular writer influenced what they wrote and how they viewed history. That is why it is important to read a variety of books by different authors to get a balanced view of any period. Same goes with newspapers today, their bias influences how they report stories. |

I found each of the reviews posted to be of equal relevance. |

But you *choose* to post that particular one. And you had a reason for only posting that one, because you wanted to be sure TMPer's saw it and did not possibly overlook that particular review. Was it because you agreed particularly with it? Or because you wanted to point out its fallacy? |

Four reviews were chosen and posted. |

Could be the other publishers rejected for fear of political correctness or simply fear. |
