Does anyone know of a good source for paper steel (a very thin sheet of steel sandwiched between two pieces of paper) that is amenable to hobby scale sales? I can't find the stuff listed in any online hobby/miniatures sites and the sites that come up in a general search are generally industrial outfits selling to sign shops.

Thanks

I used to use "steel Paper" too. When I could not find a source for it I turned to using "magnetically receptive material" MRM for short. It is sold by the foot or bulk by the roll. I have had no problems with it and use it as part of the basing for my figures. My bases are matt board and MRM on the bottom.

My source is Custom-Magnets at link

Thanks for that. I'd still love to find some paper steel though as it is considerably thinner than the 25mil MRM sheets. One of the uses I have in mind is to put it in the bottom of movement trays and for that I'd like to avoid adding any more extra height than needed.

The MRM sheets will work well for lining storage boxes and trays though.

In the UK I get my steel paper from Magnetic Displays.

Do you mean this:

Renaissance Ink used to sell it,but are defunct. Magnetic Displays have really raised the prises on theirs. They used to sell 5 plain sheets for about £10.00 GBP,C. Now it's all adhesive-backed. US craft stores have never heard of it. I've contacted large office supply distributors over the years too, with no results.

You may have to go with one of the thin steel sheets.

A TMP search for "Steel Paper" will bring up more. Maybe you'll find something you can use.

Try "Steel Shim Stock"

The Steel Shim Stock looks promising. Is the thinnest of those thin enough to cut with scissors without leaving a lot of curled edges and nasty burrs?

I have 20mil magnet sheeting that would work – magnets do stick to magnets! Happy to send you a scrap sample.

If you are going to cut the steel shim stock you should be using a tool like this not scissors.

Flashing (roof) supplies at Home Depot/Lowes is the same material without the paper (at least it works the same). Comes in 4"X6" sheets or larger rolls.

Remember to take a magnet with you so you don't buy the aluminum version instead.
