Had I asked this 6 months ago, you would have thought my meds needed adjusting.
Anyway…
1. Yes! It's great fun!
2. Do I look like I'm 18 years old?
3. What's a pokey…what?

The chasers are great candidates for the Darwin Award.

JimDuncanUK22 Jul 2016 7:40 a.m. PST

Who in their right mind would do such a thing.

53Punisher22 Jul 2016 7:44 a.m. PST

Hell no! Pretty sad that it takes something like that to get some people up off their buttocks and go take a walk for some exercise. Says a lot about our society and the future. Yeah, I've heard all the reasons why it's supposed to be a "good" thing, but c'mon, really? It takes a game app to get people to walk around exploring their environment? Wow….

(Now get off my lawn before I fill yer britches fulla buckshot!) 😈

No, and further, when this poll becomes live in two years, no one else will be either.

Mute Bystander22 Jul 2016 8:10 a.m. PST

Lord Love a Duck, NO.

The Beast Rampant22 Jul 2016 8:15 a.m. PST

My wife came into the office just last night to tell me she'd bought the ap. She said it was to play with with our four-year-old, who will I'm sure be delighted.

It remains to be seen just how much this was purchased for the kid's amusement. She may come home from work today with a Big Ol' Gold Belt she won from Cuddly Critter Cockfighting.

As for myself, my "mobile device" may or may not be Y2K compliant.

No.

Kevin C22 Jul 2016 8:32 a.m. PST

No, but I had to take to the ditch three days ago to avoid hitting one of those idiots who was not paying attention to what was happening in the real world and walked out into the street without any warning.

BTCTerrainman Supporting Member of TMP22 Jul 2016 8:38 a.m. PST

Never

GurKhan22 Jul 2016 8:39 a.m. PST

No; it's almost as silly as playing with toy soldiers.

4. Not interested. It's not evil. It's not the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just not interested.

I've always done my best to avoid playing computer games, I still have too many figures to paint!

But a friend did catch one of the Pokéverm right in our parlour last night. Saved the cats from tearing apart the house leaping after it.

Weasel22 Jul 2016 9:01 a.m. PST

It's gotten a lot of people at my wife's office walking and exercising so I think it's a net positive.

Todd McLeister22 Jul 2016 9:15 a.m. PST

Flashman, well played!

nazrat22 Jul 2016 9:16 a.m. PST

No, but I would never be a ridiculous old man complaining about other people's fun, either.

wrgmr122 Jul 2016 9:18 a.m. PST

2) NO!

warwell22 Jul 2016 9:22 a.m. PST

<q? it's almost as silly as playing with toy soldiers.

Agreed.

And yes I'm playing. My wife likes to take walks. I HATE walking. Pokemon gives me more incentive to walk with her.

coryfromMissoula22 Jul 2016 9:24 a.m. PST

I have it loaded on my phone and have "caught" six or seven pokemon as the craze has consumed all three of my game groups.

I can see the lure (I had flirted with Ingress, the game this one is based on), but it isn't for me.

vtsaogames22 Jul 2016 9:25 a.m. PST

Too busy playing with toy soldiers.

Pictors Studio22 Jul 2016 9:32 a.m. PST

I don't have a smart phone but I was saved from two pokemons by someone who did. One was on my shoulder and another was on a model ship I was building.

I'm glad to see the kids out walking around. Maybe it is bad that it takes this to get them outside, but at least they are outside.

RavenscraftCybernetics22 Jul 2016 10:30 a.m. PST

just because I'm not chasing Pokemons doesnt mean your meds dont need adjusting…

War Panda22 Jul 2016 11:07 a.m. PST

So we're camping at dinosaur central here in Drumheller and I read about the craze hitting the local town with the various dinosaur statues in town acting as game portals/stations/critter locations and the 4 kids and I spent an hour or two chasing some down before hitting the spray park and pool. I've a total no computer game policy for my young kids but this made two hours of tracking really exciting for them (although I was knackered by the end/.

It is a strictly vacation only activity though. Im not at all a fan of computer games for kids and while there's a lot of concerns ID have with this at least its promoting locomotion 😊

Watching all ages and walks of life catching Pokemon

What I found particularly interesting is the amount of physical activity it is creating – at least on the short term

If Rio gets there wish and Pokemon GO is released there in time – look for some interesting commentary…

Nope

No & don't violate my property doing it either.

Oh, and:

4) I only chase them in the sheets =^,^=

ViscountEric22 Jul 2016 1:10 p.m. PST

2 – However my wife found two in the backyard. I still think it was bear poop I steeped in, not Charmander.

Jamesonsafari22 Jul 2016 1:53 p.m. PST

4 not interested
But I play with toy soldiers so I'm not going to judge.

Ran The Cid22 Jul 2016 2:09 p.m. PST

1
Why not. Gets me off the couch. Good fun with the kids.

Personal logo Doctor X Supporting Member of TMP22 Jul 2016 2:23 p.m. PST

I don't but if doing what your phone tells you to do to see a picture of a video monster and then click some keys sets you free have at I say.

It gets people off their butts and culls the herd at the same time. There will be collateral damage but hopefully it is minimal.

Zephyr122 Jul 2016 2:43 p.m. PST

I have to pass on this fad. My landline isn't long enough…

Winston Smith22 Jul 2016 3:58 p.m. PST

"It gets people out and exercising" is as lame as "Harry Potter books are getting children to read!"

Russ Lockwood22 Jul 2016 4:10 p.m. PST

A friend of mine showed me how this works. Poof! One of those ugly-fuglies was sitting (superimposed) on the table (live camera video) along with a beachball at the bottom of the screen. Flick, the thing got whacked and captured. Then you go to some "gym" for a battle of some sort.

OK as far as it went, but it didn't seem all that interesting to me. Then again, I'm not into these "twitch" sort of games that have you finger-flick the screen at the right moment and angle to "win."

My buddy noted that his rather shy son plays this game and it opened up interactions that the kid never did. Jaywalking in front of buses aside, if it gets kids outside and interacting with real people, not so bad. Not for me, but as someone noted above, I push lead soldiers across a tabletop…

Mako1122 Jul 2016 4:50 p.m. PST

Nyet.

Henry Martini22 Jul 2016 5:32 p.m. PST

The world becomes more bizarre by the day. Now the entire landscape is appropriated by the proliferating hordes of techno-zombies as nothing more than a vast, screen-based gaming environment. When every interaction is digitally mediated, who needs nature?

Howler22 Jul 2016 9:15 p.m. PST

No, but I know some folks who really ejoy the game. A coworker told me that some folks tried to break into the home of her boyfriends parents around 0400. They were caught and are claiming they were chasing Pokémon.

45thdiv23 Jul 2016 4:06 a.m. PST

My wife and son play. I don't need any more distractions.

fantasque23 Jul 2016 5:18 a.m. PST

You collect figures and they fight each other – it's a wargame

The Tin Dictator23 Jul 2016 10:56 a.m. PST

2.
This may seem strange but, Interestingly enough, I use my phone as a phone.

Bashytubits23 Jul 2016 9:44 p.m. PST

You radical you. Using a phone as a phone the blasphemy!

Mardaddy27 Jul 2016 3:14 p.m. PST

No – I am not 12yrs old and I have %$#@&%* to do!

Personal logo DWilliams Supporting Member of TMP28 Jul 2016 8:52 a.m. PST

This is strictly an age-bound pastime. For kids who grew up during the 90s (including my own), it's a way to reconnect with their childhood when Pokemon TV shows, card games, and action figures were popular with the kids. Those of you who express disdain are just out of touch with this generation (but that's okay, nobody expects you to understand anyway)

Mardaddy28 Jul 2016 11:31 a.m. PST

I understand just fine, there are plenty of online articles explaining what you just said – reconnecting w/childhood memories and all that.

My distain is for those with addictive personalities that *perpetually* cannot handle the, "latest big thing," coupled with too much non-productive free time.

My daughter grew up w/Pokémon, she's 22 and she plays when she is off work and not mountain-biking or doing other outdoorsy things with her boyfriend. Fortunately, she has been raised to prioritize and is not obsessed with the game, she has money to make and a life to live that is not slaved to a 4in screen.

nazrat28 Jul 2016 4:09 p.m. PST

But what makes all of you so sure that the majority of people playing this silly little game aren't also prioritizing and doing it mainly in their "free" time? It's so easy to automatically believe the few "People are getting run down!" hyperbolic stories and assume that -ohmergerd- EVERYBODY is completely consumed by and addicted to the modern menace that is Pokemon Go. Ignorance knows no bounds…

Henry Martini28 Jul 2016 9:18 p.m. PST

I don't know: a vast throng of techno-zombies engaged in this trivial pursuit recently brought traffic to a halt in Sydney.

Bashytubits03 Aug 2016 11:01 p.m. PST

I do not chase pokemon down the street, I merely run over them when they get on the road. I have squashed 3 or 4 Pikachu's now.

Now there's a game I could get behind!

Old Wolfman16 Aug 2016 7:23 a.m. PST

Nope. Not geared up to do that, but I know someone at my workplace who does and plays said app.
