On Saturday July 30th, I will be running a game using Smoke on the Water rules. The scenario is modeled on the May 6th 1864 sortie by the CSS Raleigh against the Federal blockading squadron off the Cape Fear River near Wilmington NC.

The game is being run in conjunction with a hands on exhibit on blockade runners. Here is the link to the museum: link

Watch this space for updates.

Very cool venue.

I lived not too far from there in Greenville for a while. It was pre-internet era so gaming was sparse. One of the reasons I moved back to Ohio. Very good historical sites there though.

When did you live in Greenville, John?

Excellent, I visited the Neuse in 1997. Hope we can see some pictures of the game once it has run

I will try to post pictures of the games but now that The G Dog has seen this thread I'll be embarrassed by the quality of my ships when compared to his. 😉

Would have been late 80`s. Hungates was the only game store around.

LOL!

I just tossed the packaging for some really old Testor's sanding film. The price tag had Hungate's on it! That would make it 20-22 years old.

LostPict – the CSS Neuse II is less than 250 yards from the CSS Neuse museum. Often times they host breakfast fund raisers which I have attend several times. It's a neat display piece that I'd love to see them get some more replica guns for.

Private Matter, thanks for that info. I have not been to the new museum yet. Wish I could make your game (I'm a Raleigh boy marooned in DC).

My wife's GGGF was a landsman on the Virginia so she shares my Ironclad fascination and lets me drag her around to see them.

As long as I am rambling on, the CSS Albemarle Ram in Plymouth, NC is is also worth seeing: link

And the last bit of rambling was when I was boy the NC Hall of History had the smokestack from the CSS Raleigh on display. It made quite an impression on the wee lad.
