I had always wanted to own at least a couple of Tabletop World's amazing resin buildings. I finally was able to earlier this year. However, I had a project in mind when I saw the shape and structure of the buildings. I endeavored to create a town hall sort of structure (or a tavern and inn) by combining their Townhouse II and Townhouse III products into one large structure.

It involved the most extensive modification and scratchbuilding that I've ever done to an existing product. I had doubts early on if I could actually pull it off to the degree where it truly blended in and looked natural. I really surprised myself, I think the results are pretty convincing.

To show what I'm talking about, here are the two original buildings as purchased:

And here is the gap that I had to fill in and make blend in to join the two buildings:

You can see in the above photos that the two buildings were obviously not designed to abut up against one another. The roof areas are able to touch, but the 1st and 2nd floors have a gap about 1" to 1 1/2" wide.

I decided upon insulation foam to fill the space and understructure. I decided upon small, rectangular pieces of cut insulation foam for the bricks. Finally, I decided on foamcore covered in spackle for the plastered wall areas. The new timbers are thin card that I cut to shape and size and then painted and drybrushed to look like wood.

When I got to the point where I had the materials in place but not yet painted, I was seriously doubtful that it was going to work. I was afraid that the texture of my sractchbuilding materials was simply too different from the textures of the original buildings. Worse, I also had to recreate two rows of new shingles on both the front and back of the building to finish covering the third floor gaps.

And here is the final result after a couple weeks worth of painting. I am surprised as how well it actually does blend in. I really learned alot from this project and it gave me some valuable experiences for future projects. Hope you like it!:

@The Dozing Dragon,

Thanks! Omg, I know – I LOVE their bridge kit, I will have to save more money to get it!

You pulled that off beautifully. I just got a few of the buildings myself, but I will just be happy to have them painted.

I'm going to take another look at what you have done when I get home today. The phone is just too small.

Great work in blending the building together, you really nailed it both the stone blocks and the stucco and wood.

Magnificent. The combination of these two buildings fits the town concept particularly well. Thanks for sharing your process.

Wow, helluva good job you did there! Top work. I have a number of the buildings and I'll be content to just get them painted well. 😎
I look forward to seeing any other work you come out with.

As a famous Eric might say…..

"You can't see the join."

Well done and I think it looks fantastic.

That is very nice work, I just bought a load of these buildings myself.

Will have to post pictures when I get some work done on them.
