I have been on a quest lately to find out what specific German divisions by father's outfit fought against in WWII.
His unit was 507th PIR. Attached to 82nd in Normandy but 17th for Bulge.
For Normandy I have come up with:
91st Airlanding
100 Beutepanzer
17th SS Panzergrenadiers

The Bulge is proving more problematic.
The 17th arrived after January 01, 1945.
I have a book that says they fought the Furer Begliet Brigade – but FOW PDF doesn't mention 17th.
And got hammered pretty bad at a battle called "Dead Man's Ridge" (40% casualties)
My same book says they fought 3rd Panzer Grenadiers after the FBB withdrew

Anybody else have more info?
Thanks

Antony Beevor's book The Ardennes says:

p387 "fighting towards Flamierge and Flamizoulle, on the western perimeter of Bastogne, was up against the experienced Fuhrer Begleit Brigade and the 3rd Panzergrenadier Division"

p352 "17th Airborne relieved the 101st Airborne on 17/1. Panzer Lehr and 2nd Panzer covered the retreat of 5th Panzer Army from 14/1" so possibly engaged with these two units.

The "Then and Now" book says
that the 17th relieved 11th Armoured at Mande st Etienne on Jan 3rd which is after that unit had been in action against the FB brigade and 3rd Pzrgr.
page 414
4th Jan they get hammered by FB brigade in fighting around Pinsamont,Rechrival and Hubermount
(parker page 247)
they eventually nearly take 3rd Pzrgren divisional HQ at Tronle despite more heavy casualties after fighting around Flamierge. January 7th they are pushed out of Flamiergege by 3rd pzgr.

Later (after Jan15) 17th airborne has 761st tank btn attached (the only all Black tank btn) and is in action at Gouvy,Hautbillain and Watermal.
