That's not nice. Surely they would expect visitors. You didn't go inside where they were having their dinner or something, did you? But if I ever get to visit the place I will remember to take some dog treats. LOL

The owners of the Papelotte farm are some investment company and it is used as a riding school. Contrary to the old Hougoumont, they were never very keen on "Napoleonic" visitors. I never had the dogs set on me but we were not very welcome. Mind you I havn't visited the farm in some years so the attitude might have changed. Anyway much of the present day farm, not only the special octogonal tower but also the great barn en some other buildings, date from the great restoration in the 1850's.

Yes, I guess we sometimes take it for granted that interested enthusiasts should automatically be allowed to view the premises. And I guess any hostility should not really come as a surprise if the locations are working premises. Perhaps the Best thing would be to check locations out before attempting any future visits and maybe try to contact them beforehand.

Yes, it must come as quite a surprise to them when people look at the building…

The model make an interesting focal point to game with. The current farm as pictured and modeled by some is the restored version with amended features. Opinions vary as usual, so I elected the Hovels 25mm version:

i personnaly like the Hovels version of the farm very much, also it can be used as a generic farm as found in the low countries, for example for the QB or Ligny battlefields

The tragedy is LHS. You can stand outside but, one of the most important buildings in military history, far better preserved than Hgmnt, it is off limits.

Papelotte folk are very hostile. LHS totally sealed off.

Marcel180920 Jul 2016 12:03 p.m. PST

LHS is indeed sealed of most of the time, not always. I remember we vistited it a couple of times during Waterloo weekends and even did a photoshoot with our re enactemnt regiment (21e de ligne).

I have the answer.

We need to tell the world that there is a Pokémon Gymnasium within LHS. Within hours the tenants would beg us to come in, to replace the lunatics with mobile telephonic communication, who are swarming over the walls
