I've been slowly building up terrain and figures to game modern Afghanistan. The latest addition to my collection is a brace of Empress Miniatures motorcycles (see my blog for more info: link ). This has got me thinking about getting some modern troops on horses.
Back in the 80's when we were all keen on the heroic mujihadin fighting against the dastardly Soviets (and we chortled in our smug, world-weary way about the Soviet Vietnam), Hollywood embraced the idea of great armies of mujihadin cavalry demolishing Soviet fortresses, as in Rambo III and James Bond's Living Daylights. And then again in 2001, we were enthused by the Special Forces Horse Soldiers.
While anyone who actually rides a horse into a modern firefight will very quickly be hors de combat, there's plenty of room for modern fantasy horsemen. Also, modern horsemen will be great for post-apoc settings too, such as the Holnists in Kevin Costner's The Postman, Rick Grimes or the knights of the Kingdom in the Walking Dead.
Poking around, I've only been able to find Eureka Miniatures Rhodesian Grey's Scouts, and a single Afghan warlord from TAG. Are there any other modern (say, post-1945) or post-apoc horsemen in 28mm size?
Thanks in advance (and thanks for your patience in wading through all that bumpf that I wrote above!).
