This is as good a place as any to ask this question about the role of Numidian cav. I fully understand the skirmishing and recon roles of these guys – that's a given. But sometimes they're described not only as those roles but also key in ambushing and almost as if they fought like regular cav in particular battles. Has anybody else gotten this feeling from their readings? Do these guys defy the normal gamer categories of skirmisher cav vs. regular fighting cav? Do they exist in both roles?

From my research. I see them also as harrying the enemy, galloping up, chucking spears, then withdrawing sharpish. Also the same tactic on enemy cavalry, try to coax them to commit, then draw them back onto your own cavalry, while you disperse to each flank to carry on messing them about, stuff like that.

Oh, Proper lovely figures! I used Hat 54mm versions for my Trebbia game at Salute a coupla years back. But, didnt like the horses, so used Britains, farmyard horses, which had no saddle, or tack, and I just fashioned a rope around the necks.

Hi John, I recall that game, it was most impressive.
