Quit showing this around! Isn't it bad enough that Pijlie's work was so good it threw me into a total non-building funk? I may never glue junk together again! Of course, just teasing! Mostly. So pretty… Doug |

Paint the exterior silver and it could do double-duty as War Rocket Ajax. YouTube link PS: Flash Gordon's alive! |

I thought Ajax was gold and red. I think the color on the clip is hinky. Still, great 'multi-use', indeed! Doug |

Is that a commercial kit or a scratchbuild? It's really nice! |

Back in 2011 I was able to visit the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen. The museum includes a partial reconstruction of the interior of the Hindenburg. What was interesting is that the interior framing was painted with a semi-translucent blue paint very similar to what the Japanese used on the interior of their aircraft in WWII. It might make for a very striking paint scheme for your Zep.

Thanks Gents! @SB – It's a scratch build for me, but hopefully a commercial one once I'm finished. :) I am drawing my inspiration from a scratchbuild that I saw on the LAF forum, I asked the builder if I could try and copy it, he said 'fill yer boots', so I began this. Very cool colors Ryan! Tempting, but I think I'll have to go for a more Prussian/German grey and black as I'm only likely to build an paint one and it's mostly for the pulp/VSF market. |

Work continues… Kids went for a bike ride today and I had a bit of a play with the cabins and dining area… The main layout is set and everything fits. Now to make the doors a bit taller and thinner, add a removable roof for the rooms, and on the windows. Should be a bit of fun designing the windows, lots of different material thicknesses involved…
Here is the WIP piece and finished piece lined up with magnates. Due to weight concerns, the upper supports between the pieces will be wingnuts and screws, mighty strong…

Hello sir. I would like to be the first to reserve a stateroom for two, first class of course. Now the question is, where is the maiden voyage to? |

A few more andvances This is what it looks like when you really want to get things right…the zeppelin graveyard. Unfortunately when I want to make changes, many times I have to rebuild the entire section.
Got the rooms covered up.
Test fitting the window placement
Testing window construction
And just to prove there is a window pane in there…

Finished up the Passenger Section yesterday and glued it all together to insure the fit. 2/4 of the main sections done.
Also began work on the nacelles, this is the first try…
Also put some of the unsuccessful builds on top of the current build to see how it looked…pretty cool I think… 8)

Way to turn a fail into a win with the topside of the blimp. Everything looks epic, good job. |

OK, got the Cargo Section finished yesterday and had to wait to glue all the railings overnight and this morning to get it ship shape for photos. Here she is all assembled with the three current sections…
The Cargo section, showing the cross gangplank, cargo bay doors, ladders to lower catwalk and ladders to the nacelles.
Nacelles from the outside, easily removable for storage/transport/clumsy friends…
Cargo doors from the bottom.
More just general photos…

Only one question, Where do the gas bags go for lift? I assume if you keep passenger compartments to the lower half of the hull Gas cells could go in the top half. Awsome job, just playing devils advocate. |

OMG!!!! What an amazing piece of work. |
Fergal | 10 Oct 2016 6:53 a.m. PST |
@SCAdian – thank you, sorry I missed it before! Only one question, Where do the gas bags go for lift? I assume if you keep passenger compartments to the lower half of the hull Gas cells could go in the top half. You can find cutaways online of the large zeppelins/rigid airships and see that the bottom quarter contained all of the compartments/equipment and the rest was devoted to gas bags. @Botch B – thanks! |
