Thanks Tango This is all very interesting, as I have one to paint. Any thoughts on the colour(s) of the doors, etc? Regards |

Nice. But i see so many different arrangements of how the main barn connects to the stable block. Is there one definitive plan or picture that will resolve the layout once and for all? |

@ marc The picture in the OP shows the correct configuration for 1815 afaik. You can see LHS pretty well on Google Earth. At the time of the battle the southern barn's western wall ended in line with the western building's inner, east facing wall. Later that southern barn was extended west to align with the western wall of the western building. From memory that's the way the Airfix kit shows it. Person all I am dubious as to whether the current configuration tells you much about 1815, so far as rooves go. |

The thing that struck me most about La Haye Sainte was that you couldn't see it from Hougoumont (and vice versa) because of the topography. Not a problem you normally see depicted on the wargames table! |

Cheers 4th – that explains why I keep seeing different configurations – I need to shorten my barn a bit then. And read Liam's link to see how the barn joined the stable block back in the day. And interesting on the views from LHS to Hougomont – too often wargamers play the table flat with a ridge for the Brits. The maps show a very different battlefield. One day I should try and make it in contours to see it better. |

All you have to do is walk it on Google earth. Done it many times (and three times really). Set out from La Belle Alliance on the diagonal path towards the "British" right flank (with apols to Hanoverians, Nassau, D-Bs, Brunswickers, KGL etc…) As you virtually "walk" keep looking right to LHS. It soon disappears, long before you are anywhere near Hgmt! A few feet in a contour makes all the difference (ask poor Col Ompteda) |
