Wow, it would be fantastic to see that on the big screen! It is the best cinematography I have ever seen. |

Meh. I would much rather see The Duellists on the big screen. |

There was an interesting episode of Tested with Adam Savage about the Stanley Kubrick exhibit in San Francisco that touched on Barry Lyndon. Kubrick had a movie camera modified in order to shoot in natural light, candle light. YouTube link |

I actually saw this movie in the theatre with my mother when it was first released back in 1975 or so. I'd love to see it again! |

When TCM showed this movie over the 4th of July weekend, I decided to watch it. Good thing I did, too. The movie was fascinating… |

One of the most depressing movies ever made. The main tenet being, careful what you wish for…you might get it. I like to view it between both versions of Dr. Zhivago! |

It is a classic, the scenes where he is fighting with the Prussians are very good. |

I also saw it on the Big Screen on its original release, several times, and then later in the 70s and early 80s at art house theatres (remember those?). It was a magnificent film then and still is. I'd enjoy seeing it again all blown up real big. DVD ain't the same. |

Every single one of the characters was despicable, revolting, and perfectly portrayed society in that time. |

Beowulf, you're being too harsh. Redmond had good qualities (as the narration informs us and the film displays) -- for starters, he was brave, and resourceful, and a loving father to his son. As the film shows, he had the skills and charm to rise but not the skills to hold on to what he got. It's a nice little morality play. Now, Lord Bullingdon, that's the character I dislike the most! |

Saw it on the big screen and found the British attack on the French line the most memorable, if far too short, segment of the movie. The soundtrack for this scene and the entire movie was perfect. |

Yes, a terrific, if very short, battle sequence, superbly photographed. (What a shame Kubrick was never able to make his desired Napoleon movie -- the battles would have rivaled Bondarchuk's in epic scope and sweep.) And who doesn't love the affable Captain Feeny, highwayman extraordinaire?! The period look and language, costumes, music, the atmosphere -- I challenge anyone who loves the 18th century to not find this movie utterly compelling. |

Have to see if I can find the Mad Magazine issue with the satire of the movie, they called it "Borey Lyndon". |
