Would anyone care to render their opinion of a good book on the battle of Borodino, (preferably in English but French is also OK)? Looking for as much tactical detail as possible Thank you very much for any comments you care to make. John Miller |

1812 Napoleon's Russian Campaign by Richard Riehl I like alot, George Nafzinger's Napoleon's Invasion of Russia is another, and just finished Alexander Mikberdze's The Burning of Moscow which I thought really brought life to the tragedy of that episode of the Russian Campaign. |

Alexander Mikaberidze's The Battle of Borodino is probably the best single volume study available in English. [ISBN 1844156036 or 9781844156030] |

Don't forget Christopher Duffy's book on Borodino. His books are always a joy to read. On the other hand, Nafziger's prose is appalling to read, but his books are still terrific resources. |

Mikaberidze's book is worth getting. I would steer clear of Nafziger. |

Nafzinger's problem is stylistic, I find him a very difficult read. Duffy's book is a good general overview. Mikaberidze is a great study. |

I knew I would get good advise here. I am going to go for the Mikaberidze book on Borodino. Thanks, John Miller |

John Miller I agree on Mikaberidze and Nafziger's books. And I would also suggest Hourtoulle's Borodino, the Moskova, if not just for the visual delight-uniforms and prints etc. |

I also recommend Mikaberidze's Borodino and follow it with Beresina. |

Well, as luck would have it, this morning I was asked what gift I would like for a belated Father's day present by my daughter and son in law and the Borodino book by Mikaberidze is being ordered for me, (yes Virginia, there is a Santa Clause). Gazzola: I have the Hourtoulle book on Borodino and, like you, really like it. It spikes my interest for more tactical narrative, if possible. rick32: Beresina is next on the list. Thanks again everyone!!! John Miller |
