Well, I have a plan for buying through 2020.

I started in June and goes through December 2020 (most of the last months are TBD or waiting for molds to be redone for classicminiatures.net or based on the hope Iron Wind Metals actually resurrects the Wizards, Warrior, Warlock line.)

That said, here are the early months of my Excel spread sheet to give you a taste of how I am planning my buying as I head into retirement.

Since I have hundred plus 1/600th aircraft to paint I am holding off buying anymore until 2017 or later.

So basing my plan on target date to receive my items:

June 2016 6mm charaacters from Angel Barracks – received.

July 2015 Arenas for Gladiators in 25mm and 15mm sizes – received.

August 2016 buy 15mm Gladiators (actually ordered from Italy recently so they may arrive early)

September 2016 Der Kriegspieler dwarf figures (unit fill) from Classicminiaures.net planned.

October 2016 Venturian 15mm squad plus command (unit fill) from DarkestStar.com

November 2016 Thanksgiving break (no items)

December 2016 Christmas Break (no items)

January 2017 Elves from classicminiatures.net

February 2017 TBD possibly Rebel Minis, Splintered Light, or Khurasan.

March 2017 (more elves, different poses as previous month)

April 2017 Birthday Break (no items)

May 2017 Lesser Goblins from classicminiatures.net (unit fill)

June 2017 Asgard Dwarf Pikemen

July 2017 additional Lesser Goblins from classicminiatures.net

August 2017 Mayhem rules

September 2017 Historical but TBD exactly which

October 2017 Science Fiction but TBD exactly which

November 2017 Thanksgiving Break (no items)

December 2017 Christmas Break (no items)

And so on through January 2021 when I should be finished (much of 2018 through 2020 is set aside for small new projects or small unit fills.)

I too, have had plans.

You do realize that some of this stuff will go out of production before your scheduled purchase date? And you probably won't need more than two or three years for a new line of miniatures or a new set of rules to shred the plan?

Word of advise, and it finally seems to be working for me, pretty much.
1. Settle on a basing for each period and scale.
2. Anything you don't have enough of to play a game, either sell or buy enough for a game.
3. Buy no rules which would require different castings or rebasing existing castings.
4. Once you have enough for a game, try not to buy faster than you paint.

If I'd adopted this policy 10 years from retirement, I'd be in decent shape today. I had most of it in place five years out, and it was already too late.

I admire your plan! My only plan is for GHQ microarmour, I have that scoped out to their Christmas sale 2016; it seemed like it'd take forever when I set it up in 2014, but I'm almost done and then other than new releases, I'm set for WWII for all the major players.

But recently I realized how cute Toldi tanks are…

Ummm, I've found the flaw in your plan.

Surely, if you have a moratorium on purchases for Nov. 2017 that means you should double up on them for Dec., 2017.

How can you resist all those lovely, new 1/600th scale OO jets?

I have a list, but sadly no timeline associated with it.

It is nice to have a plan but I think that that is all there is nice about it.

I have a plan, too. Well, part of a plan. What percentage? 12%. Well, that is better than 11%.

I am like a dog on the scent of a bird until the dog picks up a scent of a squirrel. Look, oh, shiney!

Good luck with your Plan A. I think I'm on Plan P at this point. : > )

If they ever come up with a cure for Wargaming Butterfly Syndrome I might be able to stick with a plan like the one the OP described. Until I can fill a prescription, I'll probably continue to wander away on new tangents every 6 weeks…

No plan survives first contact with the enemy! Best of luck sticking to yours though.

Well, I have kept my KS pledge (so far!)

Sonny, congrats on your retirement. Our hobby is a great retirement activity. I must have missed your KS plan. : > )

The buying plan is relatively easy. It's the painting and assembling plan that will be demanding.

Connotation,

04APR2016

As of April 4, 2016 at 2000 hours I do hereby pledge not to start anymore pledges until:

Global Defense Forces, Heroines in Sensible Shoes, Metamorphosis Alpha, and Reaper Bones 3 are received in toto;

With the following possible exceptions,

There are 15mm/18mm figures for the alien races from FGU Space Marines setting.

OR

Someone produces 15mm or 25mm figures compatible with the old Galactic Grenadiers line.

Note: I have not restricted myself from choosing 6mm or 3mm figures if these ever show up on KS or Indiegogo.

These does not restrict in any way with retail purchases for 25mm legacy figures; 3mm figures; or 15/18mm Fantasy, SF, or historical figures.

Fell off the wagon once – Ral Partha Chaos Wars and the old 1970s dwarf figures. Had they still been in production retail I would not have been so willingly weak. Those will complete my 1970s Ral Partha dwarf army so I guess that was my Achilles heel.

Mute Bystander15 Jul 2016 3:24 a.m. PST

Global Defense Forces and Reaper 3 still in waiting delivery mode so I may need a new pledge in 2017.
