So, I'm going the old bed sheet approach to my terrain for North Africa, however, I'm not sure what else I should add to it.

Sand? Maybe some rock outcroppings? Maybe a pet store for aquarium rocks? Anyone have any suggestions?

Tumbleweed? ;p

Has anyone done a desert setting using a bed sheet type design? What sorts of things did you add?

Thanks for any tips or suggestions!

It will cost you more than ordering a mat (time and material).

Bought this one, no headache anymore:

That's actually pretty nice repaint.

4x6 is perfect for 1/285th, at least for me.

The flannel sheet is a nice idea bbriarcliffe with some textured paint…thanks

Yea, definitely some little bits of tan, brown, or light gray foliage to represent scrub brush.

Some sand/gravel, and or small rocks here and there might be good too.

Add some foam or other stuff underneath to eliminate the billiard table effect.

I do desert in 20mm. I started with a large canvas drop cloth from Menards and spray painted random patterns in brown and light tan. I use foam board Hillel underneath it, some with Wadi's dug out. I'm also planning on using a full sheet of Bluebeard for an escarpment, but that's not done yet.
When I use it, I scatter some I dyed lichen pieces around.

This is why desert games have never appealed to me. Even a very nice looking desert table like the one above is kinda…well…boring.

I get that Extra Crispy….maybe that's the reason not to invest much time or money into making one.

I like the drop cloth method, some spray paints and some scattered rocks/lichen
