"The Mexican-American War (1846-1848) was a defining moment in the relationship between Mexico and the USA. Tensions had been high between the two since 1836, when Texas broke off from Mexico and began petitioning the USA for statehood. The war was short but bloody and major fighting ended when the Americans captured Mexico City in September of 1847. Here are ten facts you may or may not know about this hard-fought conflict…" More here link Amicalement Armand |

Yep! We stole it fair and square. Kindly leave "me" out of your "We" Shag… *I* had *Nothing* to do with it. My father's family had *Nothing* to do with it. My folks were busy starving in Brooklyn, NY, while this was going on (they left Ireland – the Land of their forefathers – starving). Terrible that Mexico was invaded and torn apart by the powers that "were"… My father's folks derived *NO* "privilege" from this invasion… (But then they probably derived very "little" "privilege" from William and Mary's Invasion of Ireland in the 1690's)… Just sayin' |

Interesting. However … 'The Flying Artillery Arrived'!? Does this just mean in the North American Continent? I hope so. After all, horse or 'flying' artillery had been around since Frederick the Great. |

Actually, at the time, Mexico felt pretty confident they could win. Their army was larger than the US. They felt that the heat and illness would cripple the US forces. They also made war plans for an invasion of the US that would include capturing New Orleans. In fact, the British were also sure that Mexico could defeat the US. The thing that is not often talked about is that Mexico was also hot for war being very nationalistic at the time. |
