Flipping through last night, I found two facing pages, each with a different portrait of General Konovnitsin. Aha, I thought--they're just filling up the book with period fluff! As it turns out--not so. The first picture was from 1814 when he was a Lieutenant General, and the second from 1819 when he'd been promoted to General of Infantry. The purpose of the two pictures was to demonstrate the differences in collar embroidery between the two ranks… grin

Jeffrey, do you have Russian in your vocabulary? And how did you acquire this-----plunder sir?

Thanks--you wouldn't believe the work we put into the Kremlin level. Now, I could get everything I need with a single web search…back then…and we still had screw-ups. grin

Yeah, my Russian was rusty and then got obliterated by French when we moved to Montreal for a bit. I'll grind through…this thing is a labor of love.

Ordered it from an online firm in Russia and then had it delivered to the mother of someone who works with my wife. He brought it back with him after visiting her in St. Petersburg. grin Not too pleased with the weight.

jeffreyw313 Jul 2016 11:35 a.m. PST

Nope, all po-russki. ozon.ru I REALLY wanted to get the Cavalry volume as well, but the pair would have been too heavy.

How thick is your wallet? ;-)

German sellers?

Presently, both the infantry, etc. and cavalry volumes are in stock here:

The infantry, etc. volume is in stock here:

Much cheaper than the first seller and you could probably order the cavalry volume as well. Delivery times for books out of stock are usually quite long, though.

And then, there are the shipping costs…

jeffreyw313 Jul 2016 2:32 p.m. PST

Ouch…that's half again as much as I paid.
