Given that the original trilogy films offer 8 starfighters, and TFA adds 3, they have to expand out a bit. EU offers some options, but now it effectively no longer exists (for the most part). They have Rebels, but it's not surprising they would pull in a few other ships from the prequels. ARC-170 isn't a bad design… I always viewed it as a B-Wing in X-Wing clothing. It sounds like the rationale they are using for including them is the (pretty likely) scenario that the Rebellion wound up with at least some of these during the Civil War. Pretty much the same way they apparently wound up with a bunch of Y-Wings. |

Also I think that some of the new written media that is in the 'new canon' explicitly says the Rebellions fielded some ARC-170's early on. -Will |
