Hello all

So, I have Schwere Kompanie rules and while I really like them, they don't do well (imo) for larger battles.

What I'd like to know from all the experts here are there a set of ww2 rules that lend themselves to multiple company's to battalion sized battles that have some realistic meat to them for combat mechanics? For some reason, I like semi-complicated "to-hit" and penetration rules.

I'd rather get more bogged down from combat mechanics than movement rules, but I'll listen to any and all suggestions.

Also, I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm going micro-armor (1/285th)

Thank you

Test of Battle: Command Decison is roughly a battalion per player (skilled players can run 2-3 battalions) with Platoon stands. testofbattle.com

Battlefront: WW-II ( fireandfury.com ) uses Squad stands and can handle 1-2 Battalions per side

Battalion sized with "semi-complicated" hit results.. that's pretty much COmmand Decision in a nutshell.

Yes, you want Command Decision (unless you actually mean you want to run up to a battalion max).

captaincold6912 Jul 2016 9:11 a.m. PST

Yea, battalion max

Are there rules that cover battalion sized games that are 1 tank = 1 tank (and not a stand)?

You might consider Look, Sarge, No Charts: WWII. Information here: link

Fistful of TOWs III is stands but it could be played 1-to-1 and works okay that way.

Can command decision be played solo?

Most of my gaming is solo, unfortunately

Weasel12 Jul 2016 11:27 a.m. PST

It's not written for it, but it works okay solo.

If you set out a plan for each side ahead of time, it flows fairly easily, i find (from experience with CD3 and Over the Top)

Thanks Weasel

I just might stick with Schwere Kompanie. I like the rules and maybe I can "house rules" them to fit my needs.

Also, nothing wrong with owning several sets of rules :)

Definitely!

Another vote for Look Sarge, No Charts.

Again Maneuover Group could be of use. It will play any large game if you have the time and determination. It would be a multi evening game. It's simple logistic limits of maximum 4 to 8 hrs endurance will force you to fight in a measured way so as not to render you out of fuel/ammo/exhaustion. It is not a solo game per say but it's design can be exploited to give credible limitations to attacks on in depth defence against engineering as well as simply deployed troops. Its 1 to 1 for vehicles and teams for infantry. At this level it will result in complicated games over large areas.

Battlefront:WW2 is excellent for up to a battalion or so a side. Can bog down a bit for larger games.
It works well solo.
Command Decision is very slow by comparison.

Really appreciate all the comments.

I'm sticking with SK for company or smaller battles and Mein Panzer for Battalion to Company sized battles. I got to see a game played with the Mein Panzer rules last night and I was impressed (and they spoke highly of the rules)

I Ain't Been Shot Mum (IABSM) from TooFatLardies is a company-plus scale game that can be expanded to multiple companies a side. Better with one player per company and it could be a long game like a day long thing.

Available from toofatlardies.co.uk, lots of support on their forum there, and on the Yahoo Group.

Oh and I've seen many games using 1/300th, 1/285th, 6mm toys. It works well, as the ground scale is 1:300 so your terrain features like a house takes up the correct space

TFL also do Platoon Forward to generate solo games – just multiply the forces up for larger areanas
