Played my second game of 3rd Ed FOW for the late war summer league. Again had a wonderful opponent who was a really nice guy and I would gladly play against again. He brought in an Italian force that has some German elements to reinforce it. His army was all infantry with lots and lots of artillery and AT guns. Me, I had my same American Tank Company force that is really more of Tank and Armored Rifle Company. I believe we played the Hasty Battle scenario or something like that. Anyway while we had a good game it took us six hours to play! And the only reason it ended after six hours is I conceded as I could longer go without food or continue to stand in a crowded gaming area with bunch of rude Warmahorde players. Next time check the schedule to not play a league game on the same day a Warmahorde tournament is taking place. Regardless since FoW is basically a 40K clone why are there not turn limits? I know that most scenarios revolve around taking the objectives and killing platoons. But we were evenly matched and just ended up beating the crude out of each other. Although at the point I tossed in the towel I felt firmly that things had finally swung my opponents away and he was only a couple more turns from winning. I just did not have it in me to stand for another hour or more without a break. A good chap to play with and he had a unique force that had tremendous staying power despite lots of blown rolls on his part. While I had a hard hitting more elite force I did not have the depth to weather the eventual losses I was taking from all the artillery. Lessons were learned. |

There are turn limits, though not in every scenario. I think its missed from some scenarios to encourage an offensive mindset- you can't just do a bit of damage and wait for the end of the game and win on points- you have to get stuck in and win big or go home with your tail between your legs… |

In some scenarios, if the attacker doesn't win by the time limit, the defender wins. There is no standard time limit in the rules, but 2 to 3 hours seems to be what most tournaments use (depending on how many points are played). Also, there is a distressing tendency for players to use too many points. This is the same in all systems -- it isn't a FOW problem. But I find lower point totals give a better game. |

The game does get quicker as you learn it and play it more. I learned the game from a solo perspective, but my first few big solo games were around the 6 hour mark as well. Now I get them done in 2 to 2 1/2 hours, certainly under 3 even with gathering the miniatures and setting up terrain. I have played the game in person (not just solo) now and that amount of time (maybe stretched an hour or so) is what a game of decent size takes. Sounds like a good game that just went too long for you! |

The league is 1420 points so too many points is not the issue and since I normally field either an American Armored Tank Company or Armored Rifle company I am normally the attacker and I tend to be quite aggressive as I cannot afford to trade shots with German tank front armor. I have to get into their flanks and preferably their rear areas. which I had done by the time we finished. In fact I was well into both his flanks but again his artillery had thinned my forces significantly that I was just not able to press my advantage home. Granted we were are both new players so I am sure that slowed things down. |

New player(s) problem. Get more games in, it will help a lot. I have the same problem with Infinity, not enough games in to make decisions anywhere near as fast as I could with Flames or 40k. |

Perhaps, the new TY rules can be backdated to WWII, since those battles seem to end quite quickly. |

TY doesn't take long enough. |

6 hours… yikes! The learning curve must have increased your time. My group plays with both turn and time limits and at 1200 pts. |

Tournaments mostly use a 2.5 hrs time limit. You can incorporate that in your local games as well. |

Well the bug has claimed this thread. Half the posts are gone and replaced with posts from other threads. |

It could. You just need to eliminate the compressed game scale ranges for TY, and use realistic values instead, as well as more normal, slower, movement rates. |

Smaller game should help you play faster. |
