Dear All,
This Thursday we tried night fighting for the first time – it was certainly different! Batrep here: link

Sounds like fun. Thanks for sharing your battle report. I can see how maneuvering at night could be quite difficult, as well as hitting targets. Do the night rules reduce the firing ranges of the main guns? |

Thanks both – very kind. Mako – essentially yes, you roll for visibility on a table, and the furthest you can see on a 6d6 is 24 inches, unless the target fired last turn. |

Nice work on the M1a1's …. Bit out of place , you should have used some Leopard AS1's |

Australia didn't receive M1A1 until 2006. It would have been Leo 1A3 (AS1). |

Thanks for the info. Been trying to figure out how to run some decent, non-TY night battles for the Cold War. White searchlights/headlights, no lights, I/R searchlights, I/R detectors, etc., etc.. Seems as if you switch on the white or I/R lights, you're very likely to draw enemy fire from further than you can see with them, which limits their use, but it's hard to operate without at least the I/R stuff at night. Passive thermals are clearly the answer, but those don't come in until rather late in the game. |

Your right … I didn't read the battrep . Unfortunately I'm viewing it from my work and they block blogs and such.. No need to get snarky and all . I'll take a look when I dismount from Duty in an hour or so |

Snarky – Me! ;-) Actually if you look at the quote I was having a bit of banter with Geoff, we go back aways so its cool… |

Lol … Ok … Looks like I'm the snarky one. Anyway , I had spent a few years in the Regiment just before we retired the leopards , I'll dig some war shots out for you. |

That would be great mate! |

Ran across mention of Soviet I/R gear being able to "see" passively on starlit, and/or moonlit nights. Supposedly, the white and/or I/R searchlights were only needed on cloudy, or really dark, moonless nights, so might not have to give away their positions in the dark by turning those on, to be detected by the enemy. Ranges mentioned were 800 – 1,000m, but I've seen 300m – 350m listed for the drivers. |

That was Great! The live action photos were a great touch to the BatRep. btw loved the 'darkend' game photo's, terrific 'night time' effect. I think sometime we over estimate our tech. Thermal's, motion sensors, IR devices etc etc. but we seem to forget, that everything has a limit. *Fower Wun Seven Did you have any problem w/ the Hail rocket battery? More specific, w/ the launch tubes being metal, did they cause your trucks to 'tilt' back on the rear wheels? |

Thanks guys! No the HAILs are a bit back heavy, but no tipping over as yet! |

Love the action shots! I may have to play around with some lighting effects for my in-game photos. |
