Thinking of putting together something out of the ordinary. Any guidelines for forces at Tangiers? |

Drenth and Riley The First Colonial Soldiers, A survey of British overseas territories and their garrisons, 1650-1714, Volume I has an entire chapter on Tangier from 1662-1684. Might be worth tracking down a copy, if you have an interest in the foundations of the First British Empire. A list of "…killed and wounded in the three days' battle fought around Tangier that ended 27 October 1680." cites the following units: The Battalion of Guards The Earl of Dumbarton's Regiment The Earl of Inchequin's Regiment Vice-Admiral Herbert's Battalion Spanish Horse Troop of Don Salvador de Monforte Troop of Don Fernando Pignatelli Troop of Don Maurique de Moreno English Horse Capt Charles Nedby's Troop That wasn't the entire garrison at the time. The addition, disbandment and renaming of units in Tangiers is fairly complicated, and I don't know exactly how large of a force you're trying to organize, or for what date. I have nothing for the Moroccans. |

The Tangiers Regiment. later known as the The Second of Foot: The Queen's Royal Regiment was formed to be part of the garrison of Tangiers Their web site link The writeup includes details on recruitment and the various forces that were added to form the Regiment
Wikipdedia also has an entry on English Tangiers that provides some information but if you access the referenced material you will be led to numerous sites and publications that will provide more detailed information link The article lists the regiments that were raised the sources from which they came and the units added as the occupation went on Good luck |

Are the Spanish Horse militia units? Would they be uniformed? |

No they're not Militia, they are all squadrons in a Spanish Horse unit, I think, (no books in front of me at the mo) led by Don Salvador de Monforte??? There is no info on their uniform apart from it may have been all white. |
