So after a hit is rolled, I roll 2 types of dice. I was thinking the "Penetration" dice would be the once that can potentially destroy the tank, but what to I call the ones that can only potentially suppress? I was briefly considering calling them "Pen." dice and "Ping!" dice ;) Alteration is cute, but silly. Suggestions? |

Using two dice would assume the two effects are independent of each other – you could have a shot that destroys the tank that would not have suppressed or vice versa. Why not just call them "Penetration" and "Suppression" dice? |

Morale check, shock, neutralisation… All terms used for this stuff in other rules. Effectively they are all just morale checks. |

Nuts called it the "clank" test which I always liked the sound of. |
RetroBoom | 09 Jul 2016 3:24 p.m. PST |
Ahh, Kill and Clank have an alliteration thing too :) Something I'll have to consider. |

How about a W-T-F was that Sarge! check Wolfhag |

Glance or glancing die? Scrape die (as in it scraped the paint). |

Another vote for 'Kill' and 'Klunk' :) |

I call an AFV hit but not killed 'PINGED' – but maybe I'm silly. I chose it because it was close to PINNED which I was using for infantry but that didn't seem to work for an AFV. It makes me think of the sound of a round pouncing off – or possibly multiple smaller rounds. |

Maybe neutralized or stun? |

Awesome, thank guys! I already had Pen and Ping written in the doc, so for the moment I'll stick with those, but now I don't feel like an idiot! ;) |

You could go with 'DINGED' which seems to have more of a WW2 slangy flavour. It depends what feel you are after. |

I don't see the need for a second die. |

M/Grp has several possible hit standards, Externals (only applicable to HEAT rounds etc that fail to penetrate.Immobilized (turret or hull), Neutralized and KO, but we need only one die, saves lots of time. We refer to a hit that has no effect as a "Tink" the sound of a solid shot bouncing off. |

Glance and ricochet both sound like harmless hits. The OP seems to be looking for a term that sounds like it has impaired crew/vehicle performance without penetrating and knocking out the AFV. Tink also sounds a little 'light' – but UscCha uses that for a 'no effect' which seems appropriate. |

In my home-brewed rules, any hit that fails to penetrate, but might have, requires a morale check by the crew. If they fail, they bail. |
