Forgive me for asking because I am just trying to understand but what is the difference between these figures and the ones that Perry's make? |
Der Alte Fritz | 09 Jul 2016 12:19 p.m. PST |
@Disco Joe: I'm afraid that I don't understand your question. |
Disco Joe | 09 Jul 2016 12:49 p.m. PST |
DAF, the question is straight forward. If you put a Perry Hessian figure and one of your figures side by side is there any thing that makes them different or to put it another way why should I purchase your figures if I already have theirs? Is there something different in the style of uniform or what? That is my question. |
Der Alte Fritz | 09 Jul 2016 3:41 p.m. PST |
Joe: I'm not going to get into comparisons. You can make your own judgement. |
Disco Joe | 09 Jul 2016 3:53 p.m. PST |
So another words there is no difference. The type of uniforms and head gear are the same so it is basically pick the one you like the best. |
Joes Shop | 09 Jul 2016 4:22 p.m. PST |
"…so it is basically pick the one you like the best." As it would be with ANY comparison between two manufacturers that make similar and or exactly the same (type) range of figures. Are you trying to to make a point or is your question literal; if it is, and this could just be me, but, I've never seen it phrased that way to a manufacturer before-? |
Winston Smith | 09 Jul 2016 5:19 p.m. PST |
Seriously, DiscoeJoe. You cannot expect a manufacturer to compare his figures with a rival. If he said his were better, it would be seen as self serving. |
Disco Joe | 09 Jul 2016 5:24 p.m. PST |
JP, it was a simple question. I already have the Perry Hessian figures. If the uniform is different or the cut of the uniform is different or the headgear is different then I would want to get them. But if everything is the same then it isn't necessary for me to purchase what I already have. That is what I was asking. How difficult is that to understand? |
Winston Smith | 09 Jul 2016 6:56 p.m. PST |
Joe… If you are going to call them "Hessians", how can the uniform or headgear be different? If they were, they wouldn't be "Hessians". The poses are different. The bulk and heft are different. The only differences in headgear are between musketeer, fusilier or grenadiers. Period. Both ranges cover all three. |

Joe Fife & Drum are completely different from Perry's. F&D are true 1/56 scale, very well proportioned and the casting process is the best available on the market. Perry's are more dinamic and bulkier. I have Perry but plan to change them to F&D as I like the XVIIIth Century look that have F&D more than the "realistic" look that have Perrys. Just a matter of personal taste. I understand DAF answer, though. He has provided pictures of the miniatures and that, in my opinion, should be enough to make up anyone mind regarding the figures are or are not their cup of tea. |

Antonio, there are those who know more about the differences in uniforms than I do and so could point out if the styles are the same. After all if you have read enough posts on tmp you will see people stating about the buttons either being correct or not or something being different with the coats or the lapels and that is what I was asking about. I was asking for the "experts" to chime in and state if there are any differences in the uniform that they could see. Not whether a figure is bulkier or not. |

Disco Joe, first for full disclosure, I have both Perry's and Fife & Drum, I have more Perry's than Fife & Drum, but that's a function of longer time collecting one than the other, and the fact that Perry's come in packs (groups of 6 in metal and 30+ in plastic) whereas Fife & drum are sold individually. They are both good looking figures. My experience has been that Fife & Drum figs are practically "paint ready" right out of the box. I have had Perry's (metal ones anyway) needing a fair amount of filing and cleaning. This has been discussed previously on TMP. Thus, at this point, if your happy with your Perry's, Drive On! If you're looking to acquire more Hessians ( they tended to function in Brigades thru most of the war), give the Fife&Drum, a look. CSMO-MFB |
