Just the original film. I did. It changed my life. Well, it pushed me further in an SF direction, admittedly that was pushing against an unlocked, half open door with a giant WELCOME mat. But – did you like Star Wars ? I have no interest in opinion on other films in the series (or out of it !). Yes No Zardoz |

I really can't remember. It must be almost 40 years ago since I saw it and I'm fairly sure I haven't seen it since. I don't recall it being anything special other than being hyped up in the press. |

Yes…still watch it a couple of times a year. |

"Other" films in the series are nothing but afterthoughts and continuations of that universe. "Others" may be technically superior on some cinema buff kind of way, but they would not exist without the original. As far as I am concerned, it could stand alone as an excellent movie. |

Only Jar Jar Binks. The rest of the movies' were pretty ordinary. |

1st one was quite nicely done. Saw it at a drive-in in Fairfield,Ohio,1977 or '78. |

Yes. Chronological films 1 – 3 were excellent to more than adequate IMO. Skipped next 3, watched newest (jury still out on that one.) Did nothing to encourage/discourage my SF war gaming. Cool but unconnected to my "Middle level Hard" style of SF war games. |

If you are talking about that newest thing then NO. It stunk… nothing more than a remake, poorly done with inexperienced actors. |

Saw the original whilst at university and was totally blown away. There had been no film with effects like it up to that time, something lost on those who have grown up on modern CGI movies. I went back and watched it twice more, only film I've ever done that for. |

Yes. Talked my mom into taking me a second time, which was unheard of at the time. "You already saw it, why do you need to go again?" |

I know it is one of only a very few films I've gone to the cinema to see more than once (three times, as I recall) and probably the only film I've seen on my own. But then I was seventeen… So it must have been important to me at the time, but rather less so now, I guess. Preferred Empire (like many, I guess). As for Ewok attack and the three prequels…. nor so much. Though – truth to tell – I didn't manage to sit through 2(5) and 3(6) and have only managed Phantom Menace at the flicks once. The latest one… everyone I know says it's (essentially) thw first film re-shot so I haven't bothered. Yet. John T |

The real Star Wars before it was doublethinked into being Episode Four? A truly outstanding movie and I saw it well into the double digits that summer. |

At the time I saw it in the theater when it first came out, it was the best movie I had ever seen. It is the only movie I have ever gone back to the theater to see a second time. |

Meh Empire is the only good star wars film, and KOTOR and Clone wars (series) are definitely the best iteration of star wars. |

Watching the opening sequence in San Diego on the HUGE screen in Fountain Valley. It just does not get better. Can't count the number of times I seen it. I think that means ZARDOZ! |

The original was the first decent filmed space opera, and as a space opera fan I loved it. Empire and Jedi weren't bad. After that, Lucas and Disney owe me money. |
Mako11 | 08 Jul 2016 10:22 a.m. PST |
Yep, loved it. I recall the ads on the radio for it, and the over the top silliness piquing my interest. Saw it on the big screen from right up front, since it was a sell out, and was enthralled and amazed. Great fun! |
Herkybird | 08 Jul 2016 10:37 a.m. PST |
I saw the original first at the Dominion theatre in London, with surround sound. Utterly AWESOME! |
Blount | 08 Jul 2016 10:42 a.m. PST |
When I saw it as a twelve year-old kid in the theater at its original release, yes. Since then, however, I've become less enthusiastic about it. It now strikes me as poorly written with shallow characters and too many gimmicks. Just my two cents. YMMV. |
Coelacanth | 08 Jul 2016 11:12 a.m. PST |
It's hard today to put the film's impact into context. It was released in May 1977, putting it neatly in between more typical '70s SF fare: Logan's Run (June 1976), and Damnation Alley (October 1977). Into the wastes of the post-apocalypse comes a fresh re-invigoration of the Hero's Journey, an unabashed, old-school Space Opera. Did I love it? Damn right I did. I can see now that it was far from perfect, but I love it still. Ron |

I don't remember a time before Star Wars. To me it has always been. I loved it as a kid and I think it is a very good, ground breaking sci-fi series. I rewatched the original three in January and you could definitely see that they have aged and that there is all manner of crap in them. Much like the Lord of the Rings novels the quality is over exaggerated. They are very good sci-fi movies. They changed a lot about our expectations for sci-fi in general from what I understand. They are good movies over all. But they are not great films. I still love them. |

Showed it to my young kids last year for the first time and they were just mesmerized and enthralled by all the fantasy. Isn't that really what a fantasy movie is all about |

Very, very impressed with the first film, not so much with the others. A great bonus was seeing actress Debra Paget outside the theater waiting for her child to come out as my friend and I exited. |

Forgive me, please . . . The whole Star Wars thing: I can take it or leave it. But within the last year or so, I saw part of the first "Star Wars" on screen at a local restaurant. I'll admit, it was a damn good movie, and some of the magic from the first time I saw it came back. |

From the moment that monster starship slides in overhead I was hooked. There are a bare handful of movies where I catch myself midmovie thinking "this is superb." In SW I had that moment, not once, but twice. When the droids were in the sand crawler and you saw the menagerie of other droids I thought, this story could go in a thousand different directions and I'd be pleased to follow all of them. To this day, the moment Red Leader says "lock x foils in attack position" the hairs on my arms stand up. To this day, when I come up to an automatic door I raise my hand to force open it. I awed a 5 year old doing that once. His eyes got as big as saucers. Did I like it? You could say that. If only the franchise had lived up to its promise for more than the next 1.5 movies. Oh well. |

Yes – Before seeing it I thought SciFi was stupid. After seeing it I was hooked on EVERYTHING SciFi. Didn't manage to watch it till late in August either, took a couple months of everyone I know saying it was a great film to get me to see it. |
