As has been the case since 2011, there is now a Guidebook Mobile app for HISTORICON 2016, next week in Fredericksburg, VA. There have been a few changes, so check out my blog post about what is new and what I had to take out because it's a pay feature (sigh). Landing page, download links, and QR code included. Link here: link Sorry it's a little late, my son was busy graduating from high school last month, I had other priorities, I admit it! See you at the convention! V/R Walt O'Hara |

Thanks, Walt. I don't use the app, but I'm sure those that do enjoy it. Congratulations on the HS graduation. Finally, what's the cost for the "upgrade" you mentioned on your blog? Maybe HMGS will cover the cost in the future. It never hurts to ask. |

47Ronin, depends on what tier you're talking about. Me, I'd like to be able to isolate programming tracks, like you would see in any Science Fiction convention, so we could easily see GAMES, SEMINARS, TOURNAMENTS, and other programming. There are other things that could added, ala carte, which add greater hooks to social media and such. I'm not sure how much we need that stuff for, but it wouldn't hurt get the message about conventions out to a broader audience. At the very least, I'd like the tracks thing. It makes a convention easy to navigate, and that's why we do this. Cost isn't cheap, it works out to about 500 bucks a convention, though I might be able to negotiate it downward. Traditionally the BoD doesn't see the need for it, or at least a need that is worth that cost. Shrug. As long as we have access to a free version, they have some kind of a point. |

Thanks for the info, Walt. FYI, HMGS will probably spend more than that on coffee and donuts at Historicon. I suggest you talk to HMGS President Paul Trani (also the Historicon IT guy) and/or HMGS Treasurer John Spiess (the money guy) about funding for an upgrade. No guarantees, but they should be willing to listen to your case. Both will be at the Membership meeting on Friday night. You might be able to catch them after the meeting. Also, if you haven't done so already, you might talk to John about funding for your Summer Gaming Camp. HMGS has recently made grants to high school clubs that sponsor historical gaming. Not sure if you are interested, but HMGS is looking for ways to grow the hobby, especially with regards to younger gamers. Enjoy the convention. |

I have spoken to the BoD about upgrades before. The FI and HI CDs expressed some interest, the CW director has zero interest in Guidebook. They wanted to get a price break for three conventions, and the CW director didn't want to pay for any upgrades (according to FI CD Dan M.). It's his call, I'll continue working the free version, because I think we need it and all it costs ME personally is my time. The camp, however, that's a good idea. I could use some help purchasing supplies, as the donations have pretty much dried up over the years. V/R Walt |
