Yep, a very neat looking jet. The forward vision on these sucks though, as you can imagine, from the image above. It's incredible how sharply angled the front windscreen sections are. |

The 50's had a lot of nice looking jets. It's only later they started to look uglier. |

Great looking plane but nigh on useless from what I have read. |

The two "Deltas" (Dart and Dagger) only carried AIM-4 Falcon AAM's, which were so bad that Robin Olds (the "Old Man") refused to fly in combat when they were arming them on F-4's in 'Nam. Imagine flying the gun-less F-4C with the useless missiles against agile MiG-17's, 19's and 21's. |

Keep in mind that these were NOT air superiority fighters (that's the F-104's job). They were all-weather interceptors. |

Yep, made for intercepting Russian bombers, and knocking them out of the sky with nuke tipped missiles, from short range. Seems to be a pretty superb design for the job, back in the day. Apparently, ground control could fly the jets to the targets, and launch the missiles as well. They pilot was just along for the ride, in case something went wrong. |

Actually the delta wing on the 16 gave it very good maneuverability. |

My favorite of the Cold War strategic interceptors. Such a cool looking jet! |
