Let's not get political and embrace it, shall we? link
Like the Jackie Brown vibe. |

I think this could be very, very cool. |

Let's see how she does – it's not just having the suit that makes you Iron Man (as War Machine can tell you!). If Tony's retiring from the frontline someone has to step up though. |

I've been an Iron Man fan since the '60s, and I like it. And 'fros are awesome. I missed them when they went out of style. |

Meh, explicitly political when the article includes discussion like, "Why did it take so long to turn the Avengers from a team of mostly white dudes into a more diverse array of characters?" Want a "diverse" character (aka a different skin color or procreative parts)? Make up a new character instead of always doing some lame deconstructionist thing with existing characters. |

Luckily all my super heroes are all dead so I don't have to have an opinion except to say did she have a dodgy heart or was it a rip and replace? If so Yeah! yawn. |
Pictors Studio | 07 Jul 2016 8:32 a.m. PST |
Why is this even edgy or new. James Rhodes was Iron Man back in the day when Tony was out of it with his drinking. He is black. So this is a woman? Who cares? It seems like change for story line again. Because the writers are out of ideas so they have to do something dramatic that lacks substance so that they can keep going. I can't say I blame them after 50, 60, 70 years how do you keep a character doing new stuff. It isn't like you only have them in one monthly title, popular characters appear in 3 or more titles every month. What can you do that is new? In this case it isn't unreasonable, the suit could be worn by anyone, just about. But the Thor thing was just stupid. |
John Treadaway | 07 Jul 2016 9:02 a.m. PST |
Well, I guess "Iron" Man's suit contains very little actual 'iron' so… this'll make it two for two, I suppose? Ah, who cares: I haven't read an Iron Man comic in fifty years and only watched the first film trapped on a 747 flying to San Francisco (and after ten hours I was running out of things to watch/do). No thanks, fanatic. Tony Stark will be the one and only Iron Man! I hope this idea crashes and burns. |

Random sex/gender/race/whatever changes are even more cliched than the classic characters they replace for 15 minutes of free publicity |

She makes her own Iron Man-type flying suit at the age of 15? Yep, it's a comic book universe. Bet she gets one helluva case of "helmet hair"! |

I prefer her over Tony (who always seemed like kind of a jerk to me…). |
SBminisguy | 07 Jul 2016 1:36 p.m. PST |
I prefer her over Tony (who always seemed like kind of a jerk to me…). That's fine, but don't call her Iron Man, eh? It's like saying that because Mohammed Ali retired, that Mike Tyson is now the new and improved Mohamed Ali…or that, since we're talking just about changing skin tone and body parts, its like saying that MMA star "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey is now the new and improved Mohamed Ali! |

SBminisguy, please, it's "Muhammad Ali." You misspelled it two different ways in one post, for crying out loud! At least be consistent. |
WeeSparky | 07 Jul 2016 8:09 p.m. PST |
I hate how they just automatically make the new Iron Man a human. |
tnjrp | 07 Jul 2016 11:43 p.m. PST |
Mike Saenz kinda did an AI Iron Man back in the days of yore with Crash. Looks like they call "him" IM2 tho so maybe it doesn't count and anyway I don't think the album has even been canonical. Insofar as there is anything canonical about Marvel's superhero universe. |

I remember the Avengers being pretty diverse back in the 70s and 80s. The thing that seems weird to me is that this generates a discussion. |
jpattern2 | 08 Jul 2016 5:32 a.m. PST |
The thing that seems weird to me is that this generates a discussion. Agreed. |
20thmaine | 08 Jul 2016 4:54 p.m. PST |
I don't find it so weird – once comics decided they wanted to be "realistic" (and that is kind of funny isn't it ?) and have their heroes age they were always going to have an issue when they started to get a bit too old to be actively out there beating up the bad guys. In the past when popular heroes – say King Arthur, Robin Hood, Beowulf – got old they….died. Comics want to have their cake and eat it – they want the heroes to age but never get the title (i.e. the costume!) killed off. The solutions they offer are always going to be a subject of debate. Is this new person really King Arthur ? Is having Excalibur enough ? (although, yes it is – as it indicates that you are the chosen of the Lady of the Lake and have it in you to heal the realm). At least in this case Marvel have remembered that whoever wears rhe suit will only really be "Iron Man" if they can update and maintain the suit and have the same kind of scientific and engineering genius as Tony Stark. Oh – and I see Tony getting the suit back in about 6 issues. |

nazrat | 09 Jul 2016 10:09 a.m. PST |
Hardly political in any way. It's economic-- make it new and different and it generates news and hence sales. And 20th has the time frame right-- about six and it'll be done. |
SultanSevy | 09 Jul 2016 12:24 p.m. PST |
Boooo…. I wish Marvel would stop messing around with traditional characters and just invent new ones if they wish to break new ground. |

I'm ready to see what they do with this. Its not like they are retconning the Iron Man character, its just a new story development. It could be fun and explore some new plot ideas or it could flop but I've got nothing against the fact that she's female or black or a teenager. The only thing that really bothers me is the idea that she's somehow assembling a multimillion dollar set of cybernetic battle armor without any obvious source of funding. But I guess "its comics"! :-P |
Mithmee | 03 Aug 2016 1:37 p.m. PST |
Looks like more of Marvel's PC crap and comic sales are already down from 20 years ago. They feel the need to change everything esp. if the hero was a white male. |
Fergal | 04 Aug 2016 8:30 p.m. PST |
If PC crap is making the new heroes something more representative than always replacing white males with white males, then yes. It didn't take long for comics to replace heroes with different folks, some on a regular basis, but generally with the same white males. Now, that doesn't always happen. When you're used to privilege, this stuff can get under your skin… |
