I just learned that my grandfather, whom I knew had been a POW of the Japanese for the whole war, was captured aboard the USS Wake on December 8th, 1941. I had previously thought that he had been on a gunboat that was sunk off of Corregidor, and had no idea he had been a Yangtze Sailor! Anyhoo, I have found a few pictures of the Guam/Wake it's sister ship and would like to make a model for some Pulp style Sand Pebbles action. Does anyone know if there is already a model available, or perhaps more pictures than can be found at the below link? link Many thanks! Darby |

I took a peak at several of my favorite modeling websites and couldn't find anything (not to say there isn't a close gunboat kit available) |

Ya Toronto48, those are the pix I hit on. Unfortunately some of the details are ambiguous, even in the Navy photos. I'm actually surprised these ships haven't been covered somewhere before! |

I bought one of Richard Houston's 30 inch river gunboats, USS San Pablo, modeled upon the "San Pebbles" from the Steve McQueen film. This was a few years ago. Quite the centerpiece of my Asia riverine collection. Have done the battle of River Chien, the attack on the boom and a fictional scenario at Weitzhao Dao Island in Gulf of Hunan battling warlord junks and western vessels. Check with Armchair General for vendors. I use Breechloaders and Broadsides rules. Rules are in there for Whitehead torpedoes. |

Thank you Outlaw. MSK, I will indeed look them up and check out the rules! |

Sorry look for Breechloaders and Boilers. |
