… of 1909 "Toward the end of the 19th century, long before the term UFO entered the lexicon, there was a spate of sightings of what were then referred to as 'Mystery Airships' in the U.S. A thread on this fascinating topic exists here which goes into some detail about this strange phenomena. Interestingly Australia also had its own sightings of these Mystery Airships, culminating in what we now may refer to as the the Wave of 1909. Logically, it seems that what we were seeing would most likely be experimental dirigibles, which had already been built and tested…"
