My group and I are wanting to start playing a 1920 "Untouchables" type of game using 25/28mm figures. Can anyone suggest a good selection of Gangsters/Mobsters and Cops/G-Men as well as a good ruleset to play with.

Thanks,
Mitch

Copplestone's got some very nice new figs...

For figures you can choose Copplestone's Gans=gsters or my personal favorite, Bob Murch's Pulp figures (www.pulpfigures.com). You can also check out any WWII partisans or Irish rebellion figures that are made by a couple of companies.

For rule sets, you have Astounding Tales or the soon to be released Mad Dogs with Guns from Howard WHitehouse.

TVAG carries the To Be Continued rules which requirte the GASLIGHT rules set.

Some people have also suggested the Savage Worlds RPG system used with miniatures.

I also put out .45 Adventure: Crimefighting Action in the Pulp Era which you can check out at pulp-heroes.com. I have just started adding resin scenics and soon miniatures to go along with it.

Chaos in Cairo would work for Pulp Gangster games as well. But I've recently read through the .45 Caliber rules and they really are terrific for small games in this genre!

Richard has it right. If you'd like a Word Doc of the short form of Gangsters - Mad Dogs With Guns (which will appear in Wargames Illustrated, with a full set of rules to follow in the future) email Howard at HowardW@allstream.net.

I'd also mention Steve Barber's gangster range - the figures are on the small side, but many gangsters were 5'4" - and the Iron Winds (old Ral Partha) range which the company sells at shows for damn near nothing - 50C apiece last time I bought.

Naz: Thanks for the comment!

The word is finally starting to get out with gamer's about the rule set. I've got distribution in the UK and a couple of stores here in the US now carrying it. The toughest part for the gaming stores has been getting figures. I'm working on helping to alleviate that (albeit very slowly).

There is also supposed to be a small plug in Harbinger 18 for the rules as well. I've just put some more review copies in the mail, so hopefully that will also get the word out.

I can put in my .02 cents for Pulp figures . Very nice and he has just released cops and thugs ...look very good

No prob, Richard. My buddy Marc had the pleasure of playing in one of your games up at Cold Wars, and he's been a big proponent of .45 Cal. ever since. We may give it a go this Wednesday for game night so I'll let you know how it comes off with the rest of the gaming group.

Reviresco has several sets of gangsters and other figures for gaming in the 1920's and '30s. See them at tin-soldier.com/rpg/rpg.htm We also have a good range of 1/64th scale cars and trucks see tin-soldier.com/rpg/cars.htm Thanks John McEwan

Pulp figures and Two Hour Wargames rules are the things I use. ….I used them a lot!. Pulp figures have such great character, they write their own scenarios! All of the above are terrific products as well. Sure can't lose with such a line-up. Good luck with you new endeavor. It has brought a lot of fun to me.

I have a house set of rules (City Pavement) that you can try out. It's free, so you're not out any cash if you don't use them.

Contact me via e-mail for the Excel (tables) and Word (rules) files.

Blue Moon's BMM-403 (G-Men and City Police, 12 figures) is a good place to start for figures. The G-men could be gangsters as well, and the other half of the set is da flatfeet.

Also look into their Highways and Byways for vehicles.

Another good place for vehicles:
