Napoleonic French don't hold any interest for me. I'll take Russians, Austrians, Spanish, or the Kingdom of Naples command that nobody wants. I'll play French, they just don't grab me the way they seem to grab other folks. Same for the British Commonwealth forces in WWII. They just don't appeal. How about you? |

Carthaginians and Egyptians. I've read a few works on the Punic Wars and am not really interested in doing Carthaginians. If I had someone that wanted to play the Punic Wars I would do the Romans. Egypt is a real blind spot for me, historically. For some reason it is one of the rare pieces of history that I don't find that interesting. |

I too prefer playing Napoleon's enemies . But if I am going to play French, I want a regular line command, not guard or cavalry. In ACW, I much prefer playing the Union, for a wide variety of reasons, but in part because I don't want to win because of a +1 modifier on charges! (A rule in Fire and Fury) Rather than particular armies popular in wargames, I think I have types of troops I prefer playing. I prefer infantry over cavalry or tanks; regular tanks over killer heavy tanks; light cavalry over heavy cavalry; regular or lousy troops over elites. |

This. I also don't care much for the period between 1500 and 1900, though I MIGHT be able to roped into a Franco-Prussian War game… Damon |

I'll play anything with good, fun rules. I'm a history buff for almost any period. I suppose I don't have much interest in aerial games, though, or naval games. And I don't have much interest in Modern conflicts as wargames. Other than that I'm up to try or play most anything and throw myself into the role. |

The Napoleonic Old Guard. When I cut my teeth on Napoleonic gaming with Empire III, I played against a guy who painted the entire Old Guard. I got really tired of ahistorical scenarios in which I was outnumbered and outflanked by those guys before the game began. To this day I have almost not guard in my collections. |

I took the original question to refer to specific armies, not entire periods or wars. My land gaming has been pretty much confined to Napoleonics, so my greatest dislike is the Napoleonic French Army, on account of its boring line infantry--no regimental titles, just a bunch of damn numbers, and no regimental uniform distinctions except those between line and light infantry. The only interesting stuff lies in the cavalry, the Imperial Guard (which, as already pointed out, is excessively represented in most wargamer's armies), and a handful of foreign regiments in the French Army (but they were all converted to regular line or light regiments by about 1811, except the Vistula Legion and the Neuchatel Battalion). |

@attilathepun: Yes, that is where I wanted to go, but I forgot to add "out of the periods you game" somewhere in there. So, I game Naps but don't care for the French. I game WWII but don't care for Commonwealth forces. |
