Our wargame group is testing out the Big Bloody Battles Rules. We made up some Roster sheets containing so the players can see the units in their original form. This helps when replacing casualties. We have 6 to 10 players per game and it helps to keep things in order. We use 28 mm figures so there is a lot to see. The mounted figures denote aggressive status. The Roster sheet contains some frequently encountered rules. The BACK of the Roster sheet contains a explanation of the various status markers and how one recovers from adverse effects. What follows is a few of the sheets. A good idea for a new rules system.

Thanks. Part of the fun of the hobby is looking these folks up on the net and reading about how they were either heroes or villains. Bazine is fascinating. The picture of him above is during his trial. The head of the military tribunal was General MacMahon. MacMahon led the 120,000 strong remnants of the French Rhine army (I, VII, XII Corps), reformed as the Army of Châlons, with Napoléon III. They marched north-northeast from Châlons-sur-Marne, in an attempt to relieve the besieged army at Metz over 130 km to the east. But the Prussian 3rd Army marched 325 km and intercepted the French army along the Meuse River. After three days of fighting (29 to 31 August), MacMahon's troops fell back to Sedan, where they were encircled, in part due to MacMahon's indecision. MacMahon was wounded on 31 August, and gave up his command. After the Battle of Sedan, Napoléon III surrendered the main French army on 2 September, and MacMahon was taken prisoner. |

You're planning to fight Mars-la-Tour, in 28mm, using BBB, right? That should look great. I'm really looking forward to seeing this game! Chris Bloody Big BATTLES! link bloodybigbattles.blogspot.co.uk |

Chris -- Exactly correct. We chose this because of all the cavalry. Went on Google maps to see the terrain today. As you know you can "zoom down" to street level and on major streets and roads you can pick your way at eye level as you "drive" down the road. I did just that going from Mars la Tour toward Metz. While I am not unmindful that the world has changed since 1870, the land is still lots of fields and is really very flat: prefect cavalry terrain. I am sure there were more trees perhaps in 1870 and a road by definition is not going to be on hills if flat land is available. Still a fight for the towns is what the game is all about. We will take photos and post them. On a 12 foot table with 28 mm figures there should be a lot to see. Here are some closeups of the figures before we put them in the box:
And here is the Prussian team leader from an earlier game :

Good luck to the French. I lost on my 15mm attempt. |
