I'm having trouble centering LBMS transfers when the shield has no boss. Anyone have a clever trick for getting them to line up well? |

I always use a pair of angle tweezers. They let you grip one end of the transfer, so that you can line up the other end perfectly. You can just see averything better, and if the alignment isn't perfect, then you can reposition the free end and try again before you commit. Here's a set from MicroMark, although they have a bunch. You'll wonder why you ever struggled through life without them. link |

Yeah, that is a GREAT question. I ran into this with some large rounded Russian kite shields. Took a bit of fiddling, but after taking the plastic off, I held two edges between my middle finger and thumb, but about 1/2" up (normally, I would use my fingertips). I then used the two fingertips as a guide to the sides of the shield--got everything aligned--and then let the finger and thumb slide forward until the transfer hits the shield. The problem with LBMS is that you have no do-overs (and getting a mis-aligned one off is fugly), but at most you'll have the first slightly mis-aligned and the rest should be spot on or close with practice. |

It can be tricky sometimes aligning with no boss but you can peel them off if you have aligned it wrong and retry. The tack stays on the transfer. It only becomes impossible to reposition once you apply the water. The finger and thumb technique described above is the way I do it but I have had 12 years of practice! Regards, Steve. |

Thanks. Yes, I imagine practice makes perfect. I'll try that technique. |

I had a brainstorm. I put a black dot in the center of the shield and then poked a hole in the transfer. I figured when I saw the black dot through the hole I could push and be golden. That sounds like a great idea, but it was NOT. I couldn't really see the dot through the hole. Another couple of problems I came across: 1) I'm sure the transfers are really round, but I'm not sure all the cast shields are. 2) You have a visible dot showing through the transfer. |
