While the Sylvaneth aren't the range I've anticipated most for AoS (that would be Slaanesh) I was very interested in seeing what can be done with them.

The way the story line goes they are very easy to work into a narrative game as allies for almost any existing army.

I think it makes sense that they are more limited in where you can field them in that way but you can obviously come up with a reason why this army would be in the Realm of Fire even. There are realm gates everywhere.

I'll probably mostly use them the way I use daemons in my chaos armies though, as allies showing up on the battle field as the game goes on.

I'm sure they will fight their own battles too as time goes on.

It is a rather stunning collection of models. The old wood elf allied metal wood things didn't do anything for me. The Lord of the Rings models I thought were cool looking and these ones are great too.

Alarielle the Everqueen has certainly become a bigger player in the game from when she was just an elven princess.

Whether or not you like the aesthetic of a half dryad elf goddess riding a giant beetle into war it is a stunning piece.

It also packs quite a punch in game terms being one of the toughest models they have released to date.

The Kurnoth hunters are the big oversized infantry available to the Sylvaneth.

picture

They seem to be line breakers or artillery depending on how you equip them.

Dracha Hamadreth is my favourite of the new releases:

Storywise she seems to be quite a departure from the normal idea of elves/tree spirits being the good guys as she seems to have a homicidal mania about her.

The troops seem to be these Spite-Revenants:

They can also be built as Tree revenants.

They are about the size of the dryads.

There is also the Battletome.

Looks like some cool stuff.

They are silly and over the top and not at all elven and and… I want them all. Especially the little tree-stump below the rightmost archer…three…thing.

Pictors Studio02 Jul 2016 7:57 a.m. PST

I love that their "quivers" are little tree stumps on beetles.

Mithmee02 Jul 2016 8:02 a.m. PST

Those are horrible.

tberry740302 Jul 2016 8:15 a.m. PST

What kind of drugs are they feeding their sculptors?

The Goddess's beetle looks like something from "Starship Troopers".

Pictors Studio02 Jul 2016 8:26 a.m. PST

Or something from nature:

Terninator/dreadnought thing and Necrons. Will stick to the regular elves and dryads.
Like the stag beetle thing though.
Do they have the regular elves in this book?

Crazyivanov02 Jul 2016 2:20 p.m. PST

I haven't liked the "Giant Archer" minis from AOS, though these at least don't have little tiny bows like the Sigmarines do.

I like the Beatle of the Alarielle mini, though the Princess herself looks a little too over-designed.

I actually like the "Sprite Wraiths" and may mix them into my recent purchase of Dryads.

langobard03 Jul 2016 4:23 a.m. PST

While I'm not a fan of the beetle thing, the idea of a homicidally maniac tree is kinda cool :)

Der Krieg Geist03 Jul 2016 10:19 a.m. PST

I like them all very much, not what I imagine as what most would see as typical "elven" stuff, but then I am reminded of the whole idea of fantasy and the fantastic. These sculpts are original and totally fantastic and now makes me laugh at the thought of "what elves should look like" :D

M C MonkeyDew03 Jul 2016 1:54 p.m. PST

the Princess looks like a fan dancer but the rest is great. As they are not-elves the sculptors have done a great job making them not elfin!

And I agree the beetle quiver bearers are FAB.

Pictors Studio03 Jul 2016 8:18 p.m. PST

I kind of like how they did the queen. She is pretty regal looking and not exactly hot, like a lot of people do female models. She is not particularly scantily clad.

picture

They did a pretty good job with her I think.

Mithmee03 Jul 2016 8:27 p.m. PST

Well on the flip side I think they jumped the shark with her.

Pictors Studio03 Jul 2016 9:33 p.m. PST

So you think GW is doing a good job but she signals the start of their decline?

Mithmee04 Jul 2016 8:33 a.m. PST

No they have been putting out lousy figures for sometime now.

They have killed off WFB and have been trying to push their Age of Sigmar, which is not selling well in my area, which is a good thing.

Oh and the FLGS got around a dozen boxes of Silver Tower and they are not selling either.

Pictors Studio04 Jul 2016 8:48 a.m. PST

Well why did you say they jumped the shark with her?

M C MonkeyDew04 Jul 2016 10:58 a.m. PST

I was referring to here tree limbs regarding fan dancer. She does look pretty regal but the wings are not to my taste. Still as I said for not-elves they are brilliant!

Pictors Studio04 Jul 2016 10:59 p.m. PST

I see what you mean now. I guess if you painted that dress red or bright blue you could get a serious Vegas show effect.

Still the toned down sexuality is kind of refreshing in fantasy miniatures these days.

Mithmee04 Jul 2016 11:05 p.m. PST

These look more like Demons then Elves.

Oh and even for GW this miniature is horrible.

A Elf Queen standing/riding a giant beetle.

Really?

Cullen05 Jul 2016 2:38 a.m. PST

That beetle is a hazard to the trees, not very sylvan! No, sorry, don't like the overall aesthetic, too sharp and un-organic. The Queen is nicely done though.

M C MonkeyDew05 Jul 2016 7:42 a.m. PST

As a whole I think the collection is well thought out. If you are a traditional elf player but want a big monster ridden by a hero there is the queen. As for the beetle, why not? Every forest animal has its purpose and if the Elves want to preserve the forest the key is balance, not upsetting the ecosystem by exterminating pests.

And if the point of AoS was to release figures that are unique to GW, they have certainly done so with the other troops.

Personally I might use a few of these as monsters, or at least curmudgeonly tree spirits not to be taken for granted.

If other folks want whole armies of them, good on them.

Horses for courses as always in this past time and I would rather there be more choices than fewer.

I mean its not like one cannot find traditional elves (?) elsewhere is it?

Bob

Judge Doug05 Jul 2016 8:09 a.m. PST

I'm normally a Mierce fanboy, but this wave of Sylvaneth from GW is absolutely beautiful. The Everqueen looks like someone took the best Hasslefree sculpts and made it ten times better somehow (sorry Kev White!) Not normally a fan of GW's garish paint jobs, so I'm really looking forward to what paint jobs of these models show up on CMON.

Royal Liz05 Jul 2016 8:30 a.m. PST

"These look more like Demons then Elves."

Have you ever seen either? They don't look like traditional elves but a lot of people have been complaining that all you get is the boring same-old, same-old from fantasy companies.

Now someone is doing elves different and instead of applauding them for a different take on it you are just complaining.

I'm going to get some of these to be allies for my Seraphon. I don't know that I'll do a whole army of them but I've already pre-ordered the Kurnoth Hunters.

Mithmee05 Jul 2016 1:04 p.m. PST

Now someone is doing elves different and instead of applauding them for a different take on it you are just complaining.

Not complaining, just not jumping on the Fanboy wagon and stating that these miniatures are horrible.

Axebreaker10 Jul 2016 8:47 a.m. PST

Well at least they are being consistent with AOS releases that being consistently terrible.

Christopher

Pictors Studio10 Jul 2016 5:07 p.m. PST

They sold out of the initial release and are now doing a second production run.

Today when I was at the store I got the last box of Tree-revenants they had. They didn't still have all of the new releases and only one box left of any of them.

If you think the figures are terrible then you would seem to be in a distinct minority.

Peithetairos10 Jul 2016 7:39 p.m. PST

Those are very well done and the first of GW releases that I would actually be interested in. As always price will not allow it, sadly. The only thing I do not like is the fact that all the leaves, twigs and branches don't look very naturalistic. They remind me more of videogame renders. Fair enough, as it seems to be the style GW is going for these days. Maybe I can get some cheap via ebay down the road for conversions.

Mithmee10 Jul 2016 9:09 p.m. PST

Well, if you come by the FLGS in my area you could get them if they actually order any since the new GW stuff hardy ever sells.

Bob Runnicles13 Jul 2016 7:17 a.m. PST

My store can't keep them on the shelves.

Petrov10117 Jul 2016 10:44 a.m. PST

I don't like the model. Looks too "sci-fi" for my fantasy.
