The gf9 game TANKS is a lot like X-Wing, Star Wars Armada, etc. The latter of those games has capital ships and fighters. Do you think TANKS could have infantry if they were treated like the fighters in Armada?

Beowulf Fezian01 Jul 2016 6:23 a.m. PST

No. I think it is supposed to be played like World of Tanks, not real WWII armoured combat.

You have FOW if you want Tanks and Infantry together

Mr Elmo01 Jul 2016 6:50 a.m. PST

You have FOW

FoW is still a "heavy" game when compared to TANKS. I actually was thinking War Thunder style play more than WoT.

I guess TANKS needs PLANES :)

That's kind of like adding supply lines to chess, isn't it?

I asked the question on The GF9 TANKS forum at the start, and here's that tread now, "buried" on the last page within the General discussion……LOL!

Just thinking out loud – TANKS was probably conceived not to compete with another company product. The system is very mod-able though, basically because it's so simple, that lots can be bolted onto it…..just wait till TANKS II! (again LOL!)

Why bother? Just play Axis and Allies.

I doubt it. As much as we would like it to include infantry for combined arms combat, TANKS was envisioned as a tank-vs-tank game to begin with.

Besides, Battlefront wouldn't want to hurt its own flagship product, even if the games play differently.

Acharnement01 Jul 2016 8:09 a.m. PST

Of course. You can add in anything you want. Given enough enthusiasm from the players, the GaleForce9 might out out rules for infantry. As it stands, field guns, trucks, halftracks, would be quite easy to deploy.

I think the idea of the package is that;

1/ you get a dead easy system to show the newbie how easy a game of miniatures can be.

2/ you get some 15mm tanks, you buy some more 15mm tanks (expansions) by which time you may be thinking about 'stepping up' to their FOW..

I can't imagine that they want to create a system that starts to compete with FOW and needs less models than FOW.

However, I doubt it will be long before individuals post bolt on rules …. Though tank AND infantry rules together can become quite complicated and that is not the ambition of TANKS.

I am interested in TANKS as a simple tank-on-tank game, to please my inner ten-year-old. I'm not interested in any supporting units, nor do I think they'll make any. The name says it all.

Now, if I could just find anybody with any in stock.

Mako1101 Jul 2016 9:02 a.m. PST

Well, that, and they can sell you the same tanks for 50% more, since they include a little paper in the box with some writing on it.

Actually the individual TANKS packs at my local game store are just under ten dollars before tax. considering that on average Battlefront individually packaged tanks are about 13 dollars that is a nice savings and the models are beautiful plastic kits. My local game store has already sold out of the box set and he had quiet a number of them before last weekend. Most of the individual packs have sold as well especially the Pershing kit.

I was eyeing the individual kits to just add an extra tank here or there for my forces in Flames of War. So a win/win all around.

No there will be no infantry, they want to sell expansion packs and tank models. Having said that, just played the game today. It's a game, not a historical miniature game. Not bad. One of our reguLars is already looking at a modern version. Should play well at conventions. The "saving roll" seems to be popular now days.

Infantry

Initiative 10
Attack 3
Defence 1
Damage 1

All infantry are the same no country mods

Firing mods are as for tanks in the rules
Movement 1

I am basing 2 figures to a base

1 base is a squad

Was thinking of having anti tank and normal infantry, but decided to keep it simple.
