HMGS is committed to Fredericksburg through 2018, but If the Host comes back to a reasonable/full glory would you come back to Lancaster? If 'no' why not? |
Milhouse | 30 Jun 2016 7:36 p.m. PST |
In a word : yes. Fredericksburg is just too far . |
Ceterman | 30 Jun 2016 7:39 p.m. PST |
In a word: no. Lancaster is just too far. |
Ottoathome | 30 Jun 2016 7:40 p.m. PST |
For myself, in a heartbeat. Nevertheless the inclinations of the vast majority here are problematic given the subjective criteria imposed in a non continuous contextual basis centrfigally predicated on a bipolar taxonomy and dependent upon the degree of meretriciousness able to be evinced from a set of affiliates, which is directly dependent upon the dystopic tergiservations but unable to be gauged by a null set of absent anticeders. |
Double G | 30 Jun 2016 7:40 p.m. PST |
Not sure what you mean by come back; for which convention? |
BTCTerrainman | 30 Jun 2016 7:41 p.m. PST |
I love Fredericksburg as a location because it is different than always being at Lancaster, and the facilities and local hotels are nice (as well as so many close restaurants and food/shopping options). From a vendor standpoint, it is also good to get some customers that do not make it to the other shows. Sort of spreads out the customer base at shows some. With that said, I love Lancaster (near where I grew up) and would support shows there as well. |
Milhouse | 30 Jun 2016 7:41 p.m. PST |
I think he means bring Historicon back to the Host |
Milhouse | 30 Jun 2016 7:42 p.m. PST |
It'd be great to get Fall In back in Gettysburg. |
Ceterman | 30 Jun 2016 7:43 p.m. PST |
Wait a minute… I change my answer to what Ottoathome said. Exactly. |
Double G | 30 Jun 2016 7:44 p.m. PST |
Not sure; what does the Haberdasher think of all this? |
Extra Crispy | 30 Jun 2016 7:44 p.m. PST |
Did it burn down? Then no. |
Double G | 30 Jun 2016 7:48 p.m. PST |
Nope, let's keep Historicon in Fredericksburg, I love that Bataan Death March drive down and the Retreat from Moscow drive home, it's a laugh a minute both ways for me. |
Sergeant Paper | 30 Jun 2016 8:07 p.m. PST |
No, keep it in Virginia. It would take space aliens and Hitler's zombie brain to make the Host reasonable, let alone to attain its full glory. Until that happens, the Host is untenable. |
vagamer63 | 30 Jun 2016 8:41 p.m. PST |
NO! Too far to drive! DC Traffic! PA Traffic! Phased Renovations completed in 18 months? In a pigs eye!! |
epturner | 30 Jun 2016 8:49 p.m. PST |
Sure, why not. And maybe you can put on a game in Lititz on Sunday… Eric
|
rmaker | 30 Jun 2016 8:56 p.m. PST |
And the "renovations" aren't going to fix the real problem, which is the dodgy foundations. Only razing the building and rebuilding from scratch will help that. |
Lascaris | 30 Jun 2016 9:15 p.m. PST |
I'd go back to the Host. Flying in from California I'd rather fly and drive into Philly than DC. |
snurl1 | 30 Jun 2016 9:57 p.m. PST |
|
Tricorne1971 | 30 Jun 2016 10:20 p.m. PST |
Fredericksburg is much superior location. I have several options to fly into and much more to do if I stay several days after the convention …. however I much prefer staying in a convention hotel and having the all important bar/meeting place. I vote for Valley Forge! |
civildisobedience | 30 Jun 2016 10:40 p.m. PST |
Back to the Host. It's probably too late to regain many of the 40% of attendees we bled when we left, but still worth a try. |
Winston Smith | 30 Jun 2016 11:16 p.m. PST |
I go to the Host whenever I can for Cold Wars and Fall In. I could drive there in my sleep. |
Winston Smith | 30 Jun 2016 11:17 p.m. PST |
Errrr…. What Otto said. I think. |
TSD101 | 01 Jul 2016 1:52 a.m. PST |
If the Host comes back to a reasonable/full glory would you come back to Lancaster? The air conditioning, absolutely, positively would have to be fixed. Both in gaming areas and all the rooms. Virginia in July is bad enough, it gets to be 80+ inside the Host in convention rooms even during Nov. and March. There's no way it would be bearable in July unless it was fully functional. |
Rotundo | 01 Jul 2016 4:08 a.m. PST |
I see the Host like a Grand Mother's house, sure it is out dated and smells funny, but I am very comfortable there. |
Mr Elmo | 01 Jul 2016 4:22 a.m. PST |
I think the Elmo family has pretty much seen all the attractions in and around Lancaster so I see no need to go back. We haven't seen all of the Fredericksburg area so that could be better. Baltimore might be nice and touristy too. |

|
Cosmic Reset | 01 Jul 2016 5:18 a.m. PST |
I would consider it. Farther east or south of Lancaster is not a consideration. |
JSears | 01 Jul 2016 6:05 a.m. PST |
Another vote for Fredericksburg. I really do not like the Host. |
historygamer | 01 Jul 2016 6:09 a.m. PST |
If the Host is restored into a decent place, and if the cost does not go through the roof – then it is a no brainer to return Hcon to the location and facility where it tickled attracting 4,000 attendees. That does not mean there isn't a more suitable place than the FCC to be found for a southern con either. I don't think putting all three cons at the same location is a good idea. |
captrsharpe | 01 Jul 2016 6:20 a.m. PST |
I'll attend Historicon where ever it is held. |
Winston Smith | 01 Jul 2016 7:20 a.m. PST |
For YEARS the Host had problems with toilets flushing and "sticky" and wet restroom floors. That goes back to the 90s when I got back into the hobby. And those were in the most public area, in the hotel lobby. There is a heck of a lot to fix there, and Bandaids aren't going to do it. |
SFC Retired | 01 Jul 2016 8:05 a.m. PST |
Love Fredricksburg!!! so the answer is NO! SFC Retired |
Stepman3 | 01 Jul 2016 8:35 a.m. PST |
Whatever Otto said…But yes, Back to the Host… |
Cold Steel | 01 Jul 2016 9:33 a.m. PST |
Yes, but then I only live 3 miles away. |
Dynaman8789 | 01 Jul 2016 10:27 a.m. PST |
I would go if it went back to the Host, I can do a one day trip there. Can't do that down in VA. |
sma1941 | 01 Jul 2016 10:36 a.m. PST |
Keep it in Fredericksburg. |
PJ ONeill | 01 Jul 2016 10:50 a.m. PST |
Admittedly, I am biased, as I live in the NorthEast, but it seems that the Host is uniquely suited to our needs- Size, layout, Cost etc. I have many fond memories of the Host and I hate the cow-barn setup in F'berg. It is uncomfortable, loud, hard on the feet, expensive and most importantly- no place to Socialize, which is primarily why I go to a con. So- Yes, I would go back if they fixed ALL the problems. |
McKinstry | 01 Jul 2016 11:04 a.m. PST |
Since I'll be flying in, IF it is truly restored to tolerable levels (no mildew, working heat and a/c, a minimum level of amenities such as at least an attempt at a workout room), then yes, the Host is my first (but highly conditional) choice. |
doug redshirt | 01 Jul 2016 11:08 a.m. PST |
Only if it burns to the ground and they build a real hotel with real air conditioner and real convention facilities and no mold. |
TRUgamer | 01 Jul 2016 11:22 a.m. PST |
There now… Did that make you feel better? Stomp a few more times, it's therapeutic! TRU |
TRUgamer | 01 Jul 2016 11:25 a.m. PST |
The rational response would be " I don't know, let's wait and see" |
Bosco05 | 01 Jul 2016 11:30 a.m. PST |
I'm indifferent as the drive is the same either way. I like Fredericksburg better given the good choices outside of the convention center and am not a traffic whimp terrified of big bad I-95 – come on guys man-up. You all act like govt IT workers asked to make an independent decision and be responsible for the outcome. In the end I'll go to either spot but do like the variety. |
Dynaman8789 | 01 Jul 2016 11:44 a.m. PST |
> You all act like govt IT workers asked to make an independent decision and be responsible for the outcome. I am exactly that and do so all the time. |
Wackmole9 | 01 Jul 2016 11:51 a.m. PST |
I drive or fly from Denver, Co, So the distance don't really matter. The Host need to be torn down and replaced. |
Brian98 | 01 Jul 2016 12:11 p.m. PST |
Just to clarify the original post: "HMGS is committed to Fredericksburg through 2018" That is not correct. There is a contract for 2017. HMGS does not yet have contracts with any venue for 2018. |
TheKing30 | 01 Jul 2016 1:09 p.m. PST |
If they brought back HCon to the HOST – Yes I would attend |
Double G | 01 Jul 2016 1:10 p.m. PST |
"That is not correct. There is a contract for 2017." Oh goody; is that the year the 2,000 or so Southern gamers who refuse to drive north of the mason Dixon line all stampede to Fredericksburg like we were all told would happen four years ago? Still waiting for this sea of humanity to rush through the doors and support the show. Maybe if they move Historicon to Florida they'll show up, that will be far enough south I think……………….. |
Chris Palmer | 01 Jul 2016 4:33 p.m. PST |
Yep, if the Host was returned to its glory days, and Historicon returned to the Host, then I would return to Historicon. Until then I see no reason to subject myself to that drive, and walking to and from the convention center in the middle of the July heat. |
TSD101 | 01 Jul 2016 4:52 p.m. PST |
I'm sure there will be a backroom deal for 2018 and 2019 without asking the members Double G. Democracy is a wonderful thing. I'd like to see a membership vote on location sometime. |
Centrino | 01 Jul 2016 5:51 p.m. PST |
In a word: no. Lancaster is just too far. |
