I keep refusing to buy C&C Ancients because I want a miniatures game and I don't want to put stickers on a gazillion blocks. Could you make armies (on the cheap) using 15/20 mm plastics for this game that would fit on the game board? Is it worth the effort? If converting to miniatures what scale would you go with? Would you even do this? |

We do this all the time, with 1/72nds. Zvezda Alexander the Great Greeks vs Persians seems in our experience to give the most memorable games. Napoleonics would probably work too, but I appreciate this isn't the crux of your enquiry. |

A friend does it in 15mm. Looks and plays great. P.S. Making your own hex may is VERY easy, cheap and fast. Terrain too. I do CnC Napoleonics with 6mm on 4" hexes. Pics: flic.kr/s/aHsjNeGvej |

Well, there are already mini games using the system. The old Battlelore and Memoir 44 are close, so why not? C&C always reminded me of the old Quebec 1759, probably because of the wooden blocks. |

I play it in 20mm using Kallistra hexes. You could probably get away with using individual 20mm on the game board, but 6mm strips might work better. It looks much better with figures than blocks! |

Here is Bagradas in 20mm:
just buy the game for the rules and cards and throw the rest away, that is what I did (although the blocks make useful 2mm city blocks). |

Really all you need to buy is the card deck; you can download the rest of the game online. I've done this in various scales (from 6-54 mm) over the years but I most often just pull out the game itself and play that way these days. It is easier, especially telling the different unit types apart, with the blocks. |

I am also someone who has done a lot of this in all different types of scales (6mm to 54mm.) Sometimes we play the game with one base per hex and marked casualties and other times we put 3 to 4 bases in a bigger hex and remove stands for losses just like blocks – all depends on who big are armies are. The Epic version is a very good multi-player game. Can't really say more than those who have already chipped in, except go for it. Bill |

Here are some photos from the 54mm and 15mm versions of the game played at LIttle Wars. (I should post something up for that.) Bill Greeks and Romans link Romans and Gauls link Trebbia in 54mm link |

Martin Rapier may have answere my question. I want to use the game board from the game with miniatures. From his response I imply that 20mm is too large unless you want the look of Battlelore or Memoir 44. |
Battle Cry Bill | 01 Jul 2016 7:04 p.m. PST |
I use the board from the game for both the regular game and for the Epic version. As has been mentioned the DBA 15mm basing of 40mm fits in the 2.2 inch sized hexes. I have also used 1/72nd figures which I have seen used indivudally in place of the blocks and also mounted on stands. The hexes in my pictures above are actually 2 inch hexes which also work. You also need the specialized dice (although you can buy those separately) and the Reference Sheets are well laid out and are all you really need to play the game. Bill |

C&C might play well but I don't find these games very impressive visually. It really looks like 3D counters, not a miniatures game. |

I did exactly what you are proposing to do. I used 6mm figures, from Baccus and Rapier. In order to use the original board I created units where a base equalled a block, and my standard base was 25mm wide by 15mm deep. This allowed me to get 8close order infantry, in two ranks, on each base, giving me units of 32. For lights I used fewer figures on the same size bases. Cavalry got 3-5 figures a base depending on whether they were heavy medium or light. The number is entirely your own, it is the bases that count. I then painted the edges of the base re, blue or green to represent the three main unit types, heavy, medium and light. Auxilia were half green and half white, Warriors half blue and half white. The look was excellent, and I got a lot fun from them. But beware, this is addictive! I graduated from there to Kallistra Hexon terrain with 100mm hexes, 80mm units and, now, many thousands of little men. I still think games of Epic CCA are…. Well……epic! And I can now use the same units for To the Strongest, which is another fun, quick play system. Enjoy! Mollinary |

Is the above game Bat To the Strongest or C&C? I don't see any hexes so can't tell. |
BigRedBat | 03 Jul 2016 2:37 a.m. PST |
LOL that is Command and Colors, if you squint you'll be able to make out the coloured markers that show whether units are light, medium or heavy. I am currently getting some Carthaginians together and might need to revisit Zama for To the Strongest! I could do it bigger and better, now… |

Game looks great but where are the hexes Bat? |
BigRedBat | 03 Jul 2016 1:53 p.m. PST |
Hi MB, if you look closely there are beige painted map pins, marking the hex intersections. They look a bit like rocks. Very subtle. |

You threw the backs away? Why didn't you send them to me? I'd given you 20$ for them! I like the blocks! |
