Hi folks. I got the bug to distract myself from painting today by taking some pictures instead, and set up some models and scenery for a shoot. Wanted to share the results. The miniatures are 6mm from Adler, the houses are digital paper kits from Dave Graffam Models, the roads are from Battlefield Terrain Concepts, the fences are from Paper Terrain, and the trees and fields are from…I forget. But I bought them at Cold Wars last year, and I bet someone here can tell me who the vendors/ makers were. More photos here: link

Very nice--and well integrated in that they blend well with each other. I did Cold Wars too, but there ware trees very like those both in the Dealers Hall and the flea market. Third column from the left as you look into the Tennis Barn, and about halfway back, I think. |

Excellent. Your 6mm setup looks better than many in 28mm. - Ix |

Is the Adler range relatively complete? I remember when he released it, and there was some equivocation about whether it would be popular enough to flesh out the range. |

Very nice – your shots would sell the sell the scale. I had no idea the buildings were printed until you said – nice work. |

Thanks very much guys, glad you like it. Yogi, the Adler range is certainly not totally complete, but more than enough so to cover the essentials. In 6mm scale you don't necessarily need quite the level of specificity that you might want in 28mm. And sometimes you can find good stand ins from the much more extensive Napoleonic range – again, in this scale many of the differences are incredibly minor. I didn't really need dismounted dragoons, as I can't even think of an example in the southern campaign where American dragoons fought in that manner, but I wanted them. So I got some Republican French dismounts and painted them in the uniform of Armand's Legion dragoons. Works for me! Similarly I wanted to make some grasshopper guns, but those are not included in the American Revolution line. So I bought some Napoleonic Russian 3 pounders, the smallest guns Adler makes, and modified them by filing things down to make them sit lower and have a shorter carriage. I think the effect is fairly convincing. I'll post pictures of those some time. That being said, my partner in this project, who is working on the British side of the equation, has been hoping for a long time to get some Fraser's Highlanders in pants and bonnet. He could make a good approximation filing the brims off the round hats of one of the standard British line options in the line, but when you're aiming to do the units in 1:1 that's a daunting prospect! |
