I was wondering if it can be defended to have a unit in the campaign uniform of the IMP. Guard Voltiguers in the Republican era armies (no flags, just the uniform) scale 10mm. With Respect K.Travlos |

If they escaped capture at Sedan, I don't see why not. The Republican armies wore pretty much anything they could get their hands on. |

I've used FPW French as 1880 Chileans, Confederates as Peruvians and 1866 Austrians as Bolivians. That was in 15mm. In 10mm I used Great War Turks as Boers and Great War British as their Boer War brethren. I think you know my answer. |

Vincent. Its normally my answer as well, but for some reasons it feels wrong to mix Republican and Imperial frenchmen :p |

I pretty sure there were some Guard units fighting in the Republican armies anyway -depot troops and so on. |

Surely someone used up the depot uniforms anyway? I can see wanting to keep Imperial and Republican armies tactically discrete, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over the uniforms. |

The 28th de marche, later to be the 128th de ligne, were in Paris. It was composed of 23 depot coys from the Grenadiers, Voltigeurs, and Chasseurs of the Imperial Guard. You could have fun painting them. There were also some provisional cavalry units in the 3rd Army made up of ex-Imperial Guard depot sqdns. I would suspect that being the 28th de marche their uniforms would be more Republican than Imperial. Plain greatcoats with bonnet de police? |
