I have just started painting up a Kalmar Union army for L'Art de la Guerre. Now, I've always had a soft spot for Scandinavia, but I admit to almost total ignorance when it comes to late Medieval Scandinavian history. I'm not keen on not knowing the history behind my armies, so… Can people recommend any intro-level, easily accessible, political and/or military histories of the Kalmar Union in English? I'm thinking along the lines of something written by a Danish Dan Snow, or a Swedish Giles Milton… but still in English. :) It might be a tall order, but one well worth asking. |

While not a strictly a political or military history, Osprey's Medieval Scandinavian Armies (2) covers the Kalmar time period. You might also want to check Dalauppror's blog dalauppror.blogspot.com He's Swedish and games a lot of different Scandinavian conflicts. He has 167 blog posts on with the Kalmar Union War tag. |

Thanks Black Cav. I certainly already follow dalauppror (I'm hoping he might post here), but his blog is not a narrative history. In a similar vein, the Osprey guides are a bit too Wikipedian (irregularly researched, historically potted etc) for my liking. |

It's a broader period than just the Kalmar Union, but you could try link |
