I thought it was overblown and overrated Bleeped text

Yea, over the top, but a decent enjoyable film none the less.

Overrated? Who said it was awesome? It was decent. based on true events with artistic license (like so many other war films) and at least this one had accurate kit!

I agree with Jemima's review.

I especially enjoyed that the dubbing to English and the subtitles were different in the copy I have. Confusing and humorous at times. Good movie for something we otherwise would never see in North America.

Really loved the scene in the final combat where the LMG gunner grabbed his gun by the barrel, charged, and attacked the Taliban with it, then dropped it and started screaming because of the burns to his hands.

A bit of realism missing in a lot of comic books and other war movies.

It has a lot of Russian otherwordly weirdness and the entire battle is nothing like the actual one, but I did enjoy the movie alright.

(For those wondering, the unit in question was never forgotten or abandoned, they were in direct contact with higher command levels throughout the battle, received significant support and most of them survived although nearly every man was wounded)

I've seen the footage of mojaheddin watching the film in mid 90s…interesting that they have confirmed, that there were "fanatics" attacking 9th company exactly like it was shown – in the open, with "allah akbar", etc. They liked the film, actually ;)
While not without the flaws (and not all of 9th company real soldiers liked the film, even than most were ok with it) it has its place in changing of how the war films were produced.
Sadly, Stalingrad in my opinion was a step back for Bondarchuk.

Stalingrad was weird as all hell.

I ended up liking it, but its almost more an absurdist piece of cinema than a war film.

Inkpaduta22 Jul 2016 10:56 a.m. PST

The ending was pretty Hollywoodish. But I liked it.
