Popular Mechanics has a cutaway drawing of the ships from the new movie Star Trek Beyond. In addition to the Enterprise, it will feature two other vessels: tiny swarm ships flown by the enemy Krall and the USS Franklin, an early prototype ship that was the first to reach Warp 4.

This is what I hate, starting with the Star Trek NG movies (okay I know that NCC1701 was different in Star Trek The Motion Picture than in TOS but after that she remained fairly constant, especially externally) there's a new iteration of the Enterprise in every movie. In TOS the Enterprise was just as much a character as Kirk or Spock or McCoy. But now they change it for every movie for the toy and model manufacturers. I saw the first re-boot, watched a few minutes of the rip off of Wrath of Khan that they called "Into Darkness" on TV but I won't be wasting any more time on these movies.

Why does Franklin have a motorcycle and Enterprise not?

That is very cool! But why is there a motorcycle on the deck of the Franklin…?

"Why does Franklin have a motorcycle and Enterprise not?"

Because Kirk destroyed the motorcycle on the Enterprise already.

From the diagram it looks like the Abrams Enterprise is about twice the size of the original. Bummer, bigger is not always better.

I think that the Abrams Enterprise is supposed to be 50% larger than TOS Enterprise.

The Klingons are even making fun of it: "Look! It's that silly garbage scow again, filled with (ego)!"

The Franklin design owes a LOT to the Loknar-class frigate from the FASA Star Trek RPG.

I don't know… it's hard to recognize the Abramsprise without all the lens flare.
