We tried a major Balkan Wars battle, Kirkkilise (~200,000 men a side over 3 days) using the standard "Bloody Big BATTLES!" rules (BBB). This is essentially just like an early WWI battle in nature: magazine rifles, machine-guns, decent artillery. The playtest suggested that BBB as written copes just fine and produces a swift and bloody game!

I am glad that my purism was rewarded. Jolly good show. I wish I had Lule Burgaz ready for you guys :( It will take some time.

So you used the BBB rules as written. I assume that means that you did not use the 'Great War Draft Modifications' shown on the Yahoo group?

That's right, no modifications at all. The one non-standard thing concerned machineguns, where instead of representing them as separate MG units, divisions with enough MGs got the "Devastating Volleys" attribute – a standard rule but used in a non-standard way, if you see what I mean.
