Hi,

Thinking about finally painting up a whack of 18mm AB Russians I have, and wondered what basing experience people have in that scale. I'd want something compatible with the Black Powder rules, but that still looks good. I'm a fan of element basing, but don't know if there's a way to combine that with the requirements of BP game mechanics.

Any thoughts?

For a War of 1812 campaign, a friend managed very well with 40mm wide bases with 4 figures each. The depth may have been 15mm.

I'd go with 6 figures on a 1" frontage and a .75" depth. 3 in the front, 3 in the back.

one inch by one inch, six per stand.

I'd go 30mm square stands – 1 inch can be pretty tight for 18mm, especially if they are running forward with guns at a 45 degree angle.

Black Powder is very flexible. I usually do 30mm wide for three figures but I did a couple of large units like this: link

My club use 40mm frontage x 30mm depth, 6 figures per base and 4 bases per battalion/unit

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Anyone have pics of what they did (thanks to Jamesonsafari for the eye candy)?
