Looking for colours for "hardish" science fiction military combat fatigues. |

Black, dark gray, gray, dark blue. Silver, if you want to go 50's retro… ;-) |

Lots of options here, in addition to the above, e.g. white, light gray, bright colors too for IFF identification, e.g. red, orange, yellow, etc., etc., too. |

You can go with orange, with white boots, gloves, and belts for a 1970s look. I think that boarding parties will wear camouflage from their last or their next expected ground action, because camouflage isn't important in a boarding action. Once inside the ship, it's all close quarters combat, so camouflage is irrelevant. There are a few different approaches to the boarding itself, but camouflage is irrelevant to all of them: Bring the target ship inside your own vessel and cut your way in, like in the first Star Wars movie. Match vectors with the target ship and your boarding parties just jump across the gap and cut their way in. Dock with the target ship and force entry through an airlock. Force your way into a small craft berth on the target ship with your own small craft. |

What the military thinks looks military keeps changing. If you look at the changes between 1900, and 1999 you will see what I mean. So go for what looks best to you. Even if you chose what we would now think of as strange. Royal Space Marines in red tunic and blue trousers. You can justify it by saying that they used colour changing technology in clothing so it always blends in with background so you chose to paint in parade dress. Or the orange overall white boots look, claim that they want to be recognisable in close range fire fight. Camouflage style then can double duty. The best thing about SciFi is no one can say it is wrong. |

Current navies use dark blue, black, and gray or camo patterns with these colors. These are dominant colors in interior ship spaces and would provide a minor edge in a machinery space if the compartment lights are lit. |

My daughter, whose L/C husband wore AF BDUs to work, always thought the camo should be filing cabinet gray. |
